Jake Daubert Louisville Slugger Pin
1 Attachment(s)
Does anyone know how old this pin of mine might be?
Did "Louisville Slugger" issue pins of other baseball players like this? Thanks Steve |

Hey Steve,
I can't add too much info regarding the pin's vintage... but it's the same image/design used for his Louisville decal bat. Also... what are the dimensions? Great item by the way! |
pin
Steve,
I have collected pins for the last 40+ years and have never seen that style of pin before (Louisville slugger) Can you give a little more background as to where you got it from and how long you have owned it... As for the pin the decal bats I believe were around from the teens and 20s Bat Guys I need a little more help with that. Daubert died in 1924... also the back looks vintage I.E. the dimple in the center. If that dimple wasnt there and was flat it might lead me to believe it was much later. How big is this pin? both ways up and down and side to side. Ovals were a little more common in the 20s 30s then now say 50s -80s. Can I say it is vintage my answer is I just dont know without having it in my hand but I would say its not recent as in 70s on up. Nice pick up and if its real it would be the first one I ever saw..... Also here is a 1929 cubs pin of that oval style but the pin back is a spring pin not the bayonet type like you have... |
I know nothing about pins but it wouldn't have come from this ebay seller as discussed below would it?

I bought it within the last 10 years on Ebay.
If it is fake, I didn't pay very much for it. It is 1 3/4 by 2 3/4. This is the only pin I own. I collect Daubert items. |
Oh, and I don't recall who I bought it from.

Very hard to tell if this is a "pinzplus" repro do you remember if you bought it from that seller? that would explain alot but for the record My 29 cubs pin measures also 1 3/4 by 2 3/4 in size and I know is vintage. (real deal) Pinzplus tends to change the sizes to either larger or smaller than the original. But in this case I dont know what he was going by as like I said I have never come across this style pin. Without another example I.E. another player from this Louisville slugger set and I use set loosely will be hard to determine vintage or repro. It would be my educated guess its a repro based on never ever seeing this style but hay you never know about pins.... new ones come up all the time I can tell you that from experience......;) |
I'd guess "fantasy" pin and even more so if the image is exactly the same as the Daubert decal bat.
|
Daubert decal bats are especially rare.
I've only seen 2 examples, including the bat REA auctioned years back. Both bats were from the 1916-31 labeling period, and they could be narrowed down to the early 1920s due to the "Made in USA" designation within the center brand that replaced the dash-dot-dash configuration in 1921. Hank makes a good point that considering they use the same design as the decal bat, the pin could possibly be a fantasy piece. As for a repro.... my only objection in that assumption would be.... how come no one has seen any others? |
Couldn’t a black light be used to see if it is a modern fantasy piece? If that were the case, I would think the pin would light up.
|
I've had these in the past and they are repro/fantasy
|
Matt, did you have a Jack Daubert Pin?

Thanks! It would be great if you could post a picture of the Daubert Pin and the other Pins so in the future there is a record of them here. I searched and searched the internet to find something about it but could not find anything. Thanks again. Steve
