What's your favorite Kirby Puckett card?
I only own Kirby's Topps 1985 rookie card. Do have or like any cool Puckett cards?

I still remember buying this card at a show when I was a kid. Puckett had such a jovial personality, I loved the way he played the game.

I always liked this oddball, rookie year issue card. of course, he played into an era of a wide variety of newer parallels and inserts too. I may have saved the scan, but there was a 1985ish postcard sized issue of his that I really liked the look of, but can't remember. I want to say it might have been a gold or tan bordered with red, white, blue badge type theme with another player or two. Wish I could remember...

That bat is freaking amazing, 71buc. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks guys I do love it. Although I do have Puckett, cards actually holding the bat is awesome. I got it signed by Kirby in person at Dave Henderson's Ball Yard in Seattle. Hard to believe they are both gone now:(

Great one, Todd! Puck had a wonderful signature, and even though they are pricey right now, I intend to grab one soon. Thanks for sharing |

Growing up in Minnesota as a boy during the frenzy of the 1987 and '91 World Series wins, it was an incredible time.
Kirby was at the heart of everything. He had such a positive enthusiasm for the game, everyone just loved him for it. We used to go to Twins Spring Training every year from '87 - '92, and for most of those years the players had no choice but to pass the fans on their way into Tinker Field in Orlando. Have tons of autographs from those days on cards, books and even a signed ball with most of the '91 Twins including Kirby. Best memory of that was when my Mom, Dad and I were getting autographs and a couple of pictures from the players as they walked through the parking lot into Tinker Field. Just then Calvin Griffith, the former owner, passed through the lot. My Mom asked him politely to sign a card binder I was filling with autographed cards. He replied " I never signed anything but the players' checks". My mild-mannered Mother then proceeded to firmly lecture him on how the fans paid his paycheck, and he sheepishly signed the binder. :D I like the plain-old '87 Donruss for capturing Kirby's joie de vivre Attachment 310139 And a few slabbed favorites from my collection as well: Attachment 310136Attachment 310137Attachment 310138 |
