Indianapolis Indians
Did anyone here pick up the ebay BIN of 10 Indianapolis Indians grouped with the R313As from two weeks ago? I'd love to know what you've got there. Are there size, texture, and coloring consistencies with the R313As? Or is it clearly an unrelated regional issue as the poses, signatures, and minor league-ness suggest?

Yep
Hi George,
I got them. Email me and I'll reply tomorrow. Tim |
I was odds against George's post working. Silly me. It was Tim (money-pockets) Newcomb again :).

Hi Leon

No links??
Are you guys talking about the old 1908 Indianapolis Indians PC set? The set with the earliest individual Rube Marquard? Or something else? |
1934 Gold Medal Foods (?) - previously unknown Indianapolis players

There were 10 Indianapolis players in the group, clearly dating to 1934 - incl. manager Red Killifer. -
They certainly appear to me to be identical to the Gold Medal Foods cards I have researched in Old Cardboard (articles in issues 6 and 7) They were with a GMF World Series complete set - the seller says he got them from an estate sale near Indy, so I have to presume they have been in family hands since 1934. https://www.ebay.com/itm/VERY-RARE-1...72.m2749.l2649 Better scan: |

It almost reminds me of the W575-1 pickup with packaging from not long ago. Packaging is always a great ancillary item. |
Resale? French?
Well, if you are going to resell them, why do you need to complete the set? :)
|
very cool. thanks for sharing!

Thanks for responding, Tim. These are great, especially if they belong with the GMFs.

So after purchasing this card from this set from another member, I hoped to solve this long-time mystery by sending it to SGC. I provided the year, a detailed list of confirmed players (held by two fellow members and now myself), the similarity to the 1934 Gold Medal set, and so on, but unfortunately, they bowed out and refused to grade it.
Is it safe to assume PSA would do the same? This is my first experience in such matters. |
This from PSA on the issue:
"Thank you for submitting this request. Reviewing your Frank Sigafoos, we would need to have a full checklist of the set to be able to accept these If these are in the same style as another set, we would need to be able to tell them apart even if we had a checklist, so without more information that I was able to find, we wouldn't be able to accept them. If you can provide multiple sources which detail how these were released, year and a checklist , please do include those with your submission, but without all those details, I don't see that we could accept this card or the Indians set." While I'm new to the pre-war regional scene, I know TPGs have graded cards with around four known examples. I don't know how they can say anything is a complete checklist without info directly from the company. Any success stories out there on how you've gotten a TPG to recognize such a set? I know of 19 total cards that exist for this one -- 9 different players + manager. Are there still a bunch of sets like this floating around with no ID after all these years? |
Manager ??
, Is the manager card " Red Killifer" by any chance ??
|
Yessir, that is correct. Do you have a Red??
