Price On This Matty T205

Does this seem right? Case of buy the card and not the holder? Legitimate seller but a real high price.

COMC is 1,000 different sellers, all pricing their items however they want to price them. Purchase them direct on COMC without eBay and you can make offers and get probably 20-50% off on cards or browse the sale pages and you can save even more.

That seller usually runs 55% off sale, I think. Create an account and offer $500 for it.

Card is trimmed and recolored. Worth under $200.

Yup. COMC is good for a lot of things, but not prewar. Seems like none of the prewar sellers there have any idea what the stuff is actually worth, and even at a 50% discount, it's still priced at 2x the actual value.

I get the sense that the reason for this is that the vast majority of folks selling on COMC only know about modern cards, and when they somehow get a beat-up Goudey, they get excited and slap a $150 price tag on it without doing any research.

ETA: I just did some browsing around and it's definitely not as bad as it used to be. Very low prewar inventory and not exactly bargains, but prices aren't that outrageous.

Well, some but not all. Because COMC is a warehouse (that also crossposts to Amazon and eBay), plenty of stuff sells at high prices. But the stuff that's low priced gets bought super quick or is bought and repriced by a different consignor on site. Out of the 25,000 cards I have for sale, I bought 22K of them on COMC itself. I have mailed them about 6,000 cards and 2,650 of those have sold for a combined $10,000. The other 3,250 I still have for sale.
