Need appraisal for discovery and mediation
I'm going thru a divorce and need to determine the value of my collection.
Does anyone have any advice for the easiest way to go about that? (or any other advice would also be appreciated :) ) |
most estates, lawyers, and even insurance companies use Auctioneers to do appraisals especially for collectibles. Fins one in your area who has done one before for divorce, really your attorney should have a couple to choose from.

Thanks for the help Scott!

If she doesn't know what you have, just load up a few boxes of 1987 Donruss and bring those to the mediation. :)

Late to post, but you don't need a license to appraise non-real estate, but you need someone who is accepted as qualified by both sides. Auctioneers and respected dealers in the area might qualify.

Thanks David,
I was hoping to be able to send a spreadsheet, scans, and photos to any dealer around the country and ask them to make on offer on the entire collection. Thus setting the bar based on the old mantra, "collectibles are worth what someone is willing to pay" is that naïve? |
hide em or sell them to pay YOUR lawyer!

While scanning and photographing all my cards, and updating my spreadsheet. I realized I may in fact be willing to part with everything.
I've uploaded all the scans and photos and a spreadsheet onto Google drive and am going to start contacting dealers to see if I can find someone to buy the whole thing. Would prefer a sale as opposed to consignment at this time. I'm expecting offers north of 20k, so if you are interested or know anyone who may be interested in making an offer to buy my entire collection, plmk and I'll give you access to the google drive file. After you 100% decide on what you are going to do, if you want to sell it all in one lot, contact Leon and ask about putting an advertisement on the main page.
Good luck, you have some nice stuff listed. |
