Need help with a 1950 Bowman Ted Williams

Please see the images below and give me feedback based on:
1. Is it real or a reprint? The back certainly looks real, but the front minus the flaw near the upper right corner is nearly flawless. If a reprint, skip the rest.... 2. How would you rate its condition? Beautiful front except just below the upper right corner. Would this be considered paper loss? The back has significant discoloration. Is this staining? wax? Or just age based on the type of stock they used? 3. Based on your experience how do you think grading companies would evaluate this card? Paper loss or big chip on front? Staining? Could an otherwise really nice card for its age automatically be dropped to a 1? 4. Any guesses on what market value may be? What would you consider paying for a card in this condition? Thanks in advance! Chris |
Looks real to me. Is the "paper loss" next to his elbow really sticker residue on the toploader? If that's on card, I would say 1. If the stain on the top right is the only real problem, I'd call it VG-EX. PSA just graded a Mantle card of mine with a much bigger and uglier stain a PSA 4 with no qualifier.
I'm guessing the back staining is adhesive residue from being pasted into a scrapbook. Maybe a 5(ST)? |
I'm calling it a PSA 1 -2. I'm cheap and buying for resale so I wouldn't go over $50 on it with the intent of asking $100.

Full disclosure: I don't own the cards, I am trying to help a friend determine what do do with them and what they may be worth or if they should be graded. If I'd have seen the paper loss by the elbow, i'd have known for sure it would be a 1 or 2. He also has a '51 with really nice eye appeal (to me), but a damned crease right through the waist. Added pics of the '51. |
God I love Ted Williams! If I hit the lottery I'd tackle a Williams collection pronto.
