The October 22, 1909 game between the Chicago Leland Giants and the Chicago Cubs featured pitchers Ed Reulbach for the Cubs and HOF'er Rube Foster for the Lelands. This pass would have been valid for many negro league games including the one mentioned above. He then held various professional positions in the business, education, legal and political fields, including serving as a vice president at USC, a lawyer and a judge. During homecoming of 1937 USC honored their All Time greats with these bronze on wood plaques which featured the Trogan Mascot. Aronson striker lighter made in the likeness of Honus Wagner. This lighter stands at a acceptable 5.25" and is a sure conversation starter. Aronson made many different types of lighters in the early 1900's, but this is without a doubt the most recognizable one. The condition is exceptional given it's age as the bronze shows the right amount of patina. While we do believe that the tear drop striker is a reproduction that was later added to replace the original one, the statue is certainly an original from 1913. Louis V. Aronson was a philanthropist and a leader of Newark’s Jewish community, who left his mark on history as the inventor of one of the most recognizable products of the 20th century: the Ronson lighters. They were almost permanent fixtures in the pockets, purses, homes, and offices of millions of cigarette, cigar, and pipe smokers in the years when smoking was perceived as sophisticated, not lethal. Up for your consideration is an extraordinary and extremely rare Rawlings retail cardboard display, issued in promotion of the company's Mickey Mantle model "MM" fielder's glove. Please note that we have only seen one other example of this sign, and it sold at Robert Edward Auctions in 2012 for almost $4000 (see photo #6). This sign has been cut down by the original owner removing the part of the sign that showed off the glove. They kept the best part of the sign however as this features a photo of Mantle in uniform. The illustrated plaque below Mantle's image makes note of his 1956 Triple Crown Season and reads "Mickey Mantle - 'Player of The Year' 1956." Mantle was the king of the baseball world following his memorable 1956 season, which included yet another New York Yankees World Championship, and Rawlings obviously sought to capitalize on his popularity. The size of this sign was sure to catch the eye of anyone passing by, and Mantle's personal endorsement stamped in the pocket of the glove was probably more than enough to sway the decision of any red-blooded American boy.
Its visual appeal today is no less impressive, and this piece could serve as the centerpiece to any advanced Mickey Mantle or baseball-advertising collection. The piece displays a number of minor flaws commensurate with its age and former use, including a number of moderate creases, minor surface abrasions, and a few light scratches. We are offering an array of seldom seen Jackie Robinson pinbacks all in one lot. There are a total of 12 rare pins and 2 gumball charms included in this lot. All pins are in exceptional condition and 100% original. Included in this lot is what many people regard as the first Robinson pin to ever hit the market. It shows him wearing a uniform that is attributed to his 1946 Minor League team, the Montreal Royals. This 1.75” pin was made when Robinson was with the Royals and it is extremely rare. Also included are the following pins: 1.25” pin depicting a very youthful looking Robinson. His (first) name is placed in quotation marks. 1.25" pin which states, “I’m Rooting for Jackie Robinson.” 1.75" pin which has the same inscription, but the image is expanded to include a portion of the team name across the jersey. 1.75" pin which was made celebrating Robinson winning the inaugural Rookie of the Year Award in the National League. 1.75" pin featuring a pinstriped uniform from the Kansas City Monarchs when Robinson played with them in 1945. It appears the KC was airbrushed, leaving no team name or logo on either the jersey or the cap. The pin was created by vendors to sell early in the 1947 season before there were photographs of Robinson wearing a Dodger uniform. The team name “Dodgers” was added to the pin, although clearly this is not the uniform of the Brooklyn Dodgers. Circa 1910, It is believed that the figural piece depicted in this cast iron bank is actually Ty Cobb. The resemblance is clear, from the facial features to the split-handed grip. Of course the figure itself appears a little pudgy to be Cobb, but what good is a skinny bank? The piece measures just under 6" high, with a hand-painted cap. The reverse contains a coin slot, as well as a screw that takes the bank apart, enabling the owner to remove the bounty. The figure does exhibit some wear, but displays well. Up for your consideration is an exceedingly rare and momumental piece of sports memorabilia history. This is the program and scorecard is without a doubt from the April 15th 1954 game in which Hank Aaron logged his first and second career major league hits (and was robbed of his third).
Many will ask how we can be so sure since it is unscored. The answer is simple.... Steve Bilko. Here are the facts: The April series between the Braves and Cardinals was scheduled to be only one game (as is proof from photo #2). Steve Bilko is listed on the roster of this program ( see photo #4). Steve Bilko was sold to the Chicago Cubs for $12,500 on the 30th of April. The Braves and Cardinals would not meet again at Milwaukee until 5/28. These facts are evidence that the only game in which this program could be valid for was the April 15th contest in which Hammerin' Hank pounded out 2 hits including a double. It is our opinion that this ticket is in NM-MT condition with it's only flaw being a light mark on the back that can be seen on the photos. The 1947 Major League Baseball All-Star Game was the 14th playing of the "Midsummer Classic" between Major League Baseball's (MLB) American League (AL) and National League (NL) All-Star teams. The All-Star Game was held on July 8, 1947, at Wrigley Field in Chicago, the home of the NL's Chicago Cubs. The game resulted in the American League defeating the National League by a score of 2–1 in 2 hours and 19 minutes. The National League manager was Eddie Dyer of the St. Louis Cardinals, and the NL coaches were Philadelphia Phillies manager Ben Chapman and New York Giants player-manager Mel Ott. The American League manager was Joe Cronin of the Boston Red Sox, and the AL coaches were Red Sox coach Del Baker and Detroit Tigers manager Steve O'Neill. The first three and a half innings were scoreless with four hits between both teams. Johnny Mize hit a solo home run off of Spec Shea to deep right field in the bottom of the fourth inning to put the National League ahead 1–0. In the top of the sixth, Luke Appling scored from third base as Joe DiMaggio hit into a 6–4–3 double play to again tie the game. Stan Spence, pinch hitting for Shea, singled to right-center field in the top of the seventh inning, scoring Bobby Doerr from third base to give the American League the lead. Doerr had made it to third after pitcher Johnny Sain failed a pickoff attempt to second baseman Eddie Stanky. The NL's tying and winning runs in the form of Phil Cavarretta and Phil Masi (pinch running for Johnny Mize) were on third and first bases respectively in the bottom of the eighth inning, with Enos Slaughter at bat. Slaughter grounded out to shortstop Joe Boudreau, and pitcher Joe Page got out of the inning with the AL still on top, 2–1. Warren Spahn and the National League squad held off any more offense by the AL in the final inning, again giving them a chance to win it in their half of the ninth. Whitey Kurowski grounded out to Bobby Doerr at second and Pee Wee Reese walked to put the tying run on first. Eddie Stanky grounded out to Doerr also, preventing Reese from advancing. Before reading any further we need to stress to you the fact that these photos have never been attached from each other. Due to this, a tremendous premium is added to the set. Usually this set is found one of 2 ways. Either the photos are loose in the booklet attached from each other, or they are stuck on their respective slots inside the album. This set includes the infamous Roger Maris Rookie. For the 1957 season, the Sohio service station chain released (18) card team sets and photo albums for the Cleveland Indians and Cincinnati Reds. These black and white perforated cards measure 5x7 and are accompanied by a facsimile autograph. This is a scarce example of a 1920 Chicago White Sox program in which Joe Jackson faced off against Babe Ruth for one of the final times ever. This was Babe Ruth's first year as a New York Yankee and Shoeless Joe Jackson's final year as a Chicago White Sox (He was banned from baseball). This example shows some wear however still displays phenomenolly. Please note that we only took 4 photos of this program as this piece of baseball history*is extremely fragile Although the scorecard portion is not scored, we are confident that this program is from*the August 1-4 series. We were able to figure this out by identifying Strunk on the White Sox roster. Since Strunk was added to the roster after July 23rd, the only possible games that this program could be from is the August 1-4 series and The September 16-18 series. Once we figured this out, we then matched the lineups of both teams to the final game of their previous series and the only series in which Babe Ruth batted cleanup prior to meeting the White Sox was the July 28-31 series at the St. Louis Browns. This program is absolutely loaded with Hall of Famers along with one of the most iconic baseball figures ever... Shoeless Joe Jackson. Hall of Famers include Red Faber, Eddie Collins, Ray Schalk and Babe Ruth. It is worth noting that during this series, Babe Ruth hit his 38th round tripper of the season and the 87th of his young career. This is an extremely scarce example of a 1908 Boston Red Sox program that features a photograph of Hall of Famer Cy Young heaving a pitch on the front cover. This example shows minor wear however displays exceptionally. This program is from the July 21st double header between the Boston Red Sox and St. Louis Browns which took place in Boston. (remember that Fenway Park was not around yet) We were able to easily identify the date of this program by matching up the lineups and scores to the corresponding dates. The score of game 1 is written lightly in pencil atop the score card while the 2nd game is written even lighter below the smoke Weldon advertisement on the Boston section of the scorecard. Boston went on to win both of these games due to errors which can be found on the newspaper clipping we provided in the final photo. It is apparent to us that the fan who scored this unique scorecard took great pride in his or her work. This is truly an exceptional example of one of the rarest 1928 Providence Steamroller NFL Championship Season programs that we have ever seen. This is from the October 7th 1928 game between the Providence Steamrollers and the Frankford Yellow Jackets. The Steamrollers fell short 10-6 making this the only game that they lost the entire season on their way to becoming NFL champions. The front cover features an illustration of what looks like either a Steamroller running back or wide receiver. This example shows some minor flaws however displays phenomenolly. The name of Arthur Le Cain who we believe is the fan who attended the game is written boldly on the front cover along with the date and score of the game. What is even more remarkable is the fact that Arthur wrote Phila rather than Frankford probably due to the fact that Frankford was a relatively unknown part of Philadelphia. While 1928 Steamroller programs rarely come up for sale, this regular season game is the most elusive of them all as it's the only game they lost that season. Although this program is not scored, we were conclusively able to narrow it down to the June 3-6 Series due to Markle being on the New York Yankees roster. He was sold away on July 22nd. Once we narrowed it down to the series we looked in the program for context clues. On the last page of the program is a list of remaining White Sox home games. Due to the fact that there are no remaining game son the schedule with the Yankees, we can confidently say that this is from the final gam eof the series. Up for your consideration is an exceptional example of a 1911 Chicago Cubs Program.
The front cover of this scarce program features an illustrated color portrait of Chicago Cub Hall of Famer Frank Chance. While there are some minor flaws, the colors are vivid as ever and this piece of Cubs history displays fantastically. The scorecard portion is not scored, however we were able to pinpoint this to the September 19th to 22nd series between the Chicago Cubs and Philadelphia Phillies. We were able to do so by identifying Rowman on the Cubs roster who was traded to them on August 18 1911. The phillies would not come to Chicago again until September. Furthermore, we feel confident narrowing it down even more to the games played on the 20th and 21st. We were able to do this by looking up the weather reports from those days in Chicago and seeing that there was light rain and clouds in the area. Due to the program showing minor evidence of once being wet in some areas we feel there is a very good chance this was aquired at the game. The weather was clear on the 19th and 22nd so we feel confident in our assessment. Grover Alexander is listed as the starting pitcher for the Phillies. This program is absolutely loaded with Hall of Famers including Grover Alexander, Mordecai Brown, Frank Chance, Johnny Evers and Joe Tinker. These 1911 beauties are elusive and are rarely found in any condition. This is an extremely scarce example of a 1906 St. Louis Browns program from their opening day battle against the Cleveland Naps. This example shows front cover wear on the bottom right and is missing the back cover, however displays magnificently. We were able to easily identify the date of this program by scouring through old newspaper articles and matching the lineups and pitchers up. One of the only time in which Howell and Hess faced off that year was Opening Day April 17th. Along with that, the Naps lineup matches exactly while the Browns lineup is close. These teams also played at St. Louis on June 22nd and 23, September 9th and 16th, and October 10th. The lineups do not come close to matching up for both teams in almost all instances, and when they do the starting pitchers are both incorrect. Cleveland went on to take this game 3-1 behind the bat of Nap Lajoie as he and Jackson both collected 2 hits each. This program is absolutely loaded with Hall of Famers such as Nap Lajoie, Elmer Flick, Addie Joss and Bobby Wallace. Up for your consideration is an extraordinary example of a Negro League Program from the August 28th 1944 Twinight doubleheader which took place in front of 13,136 fans at Shibe Park.
What a day it was, as the Birmingham Barons defeated the Philadelphia Stars 6-3 in game 1 only to get stifled by Satchel Paige and the Kansas City Monarchs 10-0 in game 2. Satchel Paige fired off 4 scoreless innings yeilding only one measly hit while striking out 4. The front cover depicts a beautiful black and white photograph of Satchel Paige in the windup, while the back page shows a photo of big bad Josh Gibson finishing his swing. While the inside of the program is not scored, the fan boldly made notation of game ones score in pencil above the respective team names. While the program does show some wear, it displays phenomenally to say the least. Ty Cobb WWI YMCA BAT & Chest Protector.
Up for your consideration is an extremely rare and spectacular example of a 1917-1918 Louisville Slugger YMCA Logo Ty Cobb Baseball Bat.
This beautiful 1917-1918 Hillerich & Bradsby Ty Cobb baseball bat has the triangular Y.M.C.A. Logo and features the "Dash Dot Dash" center brand from the 1916 - 1929 H&B bat Labeling Period. These baseball bats in excellent condition will range in value from about $150 for a common player such as Walter Holke to about $3,500 for a Hall of Fame player like Ty Cobb. Other players that have shown up in auction include: George Sisler, Tris Speaker, Eddie Collins ($280.-$425) and Joe Jackson ($3,321.) Player endorsed bats found with the YMCA logo are identical to professional model bats from the same era which were known to be used during major league games. Clark Griffith came up with the idea in early 1917 of creating a fund for supplying baseball equipment to servicemen at home and abroad. To finance the project he asked every man, woman and child in the country to donate 25 cents. He wanted all baseball fans to remit their quarter and then send out four chain letters asking for the same; hopefully this system would prompt all Americans to contribute to the effort. The drive gained immediate attention on May 22nd when President Woodrow Wilson endorsed the plan and remitted his quarter. Griffith began mailing kits to troop swhich included fielding mitts, catcher's mitt, chest protector, first baseman's mitt, three batts, twelve balls, 3 bases with pegs, a rule book and 125 score cards. In late October, Griffith worked out a deal with Spalding, Reach and Wilson. Finally, Griffith's old teammate (Bill Large) went to France as an emissary for the YMCA. He was sent to coach soldier teams for the YMCA and to possibly establish, in the wake of American presence in Europe, and International Baseball League. In total 3,100 kits were sent out. These YMCA bats were used by troops overseas with absolute certainty. Up for your consideration is an exceptional example of a 1911 Pittsburgh Pirates Program.
The front cover of this scarce program features illustrated portraits of Pirates President Barney Dreyfus, along with 4 political candidates for Pittsburgh. The front cover also has the date of the game in which the Pirates took on their rival Cardinals written in pencil. Our favorite part of this program is the infamous Honus Wagner T-206 Portrait image which can be found a few pages into the program. While there are some minor flaws, the colors are vivid as ever and this piece of Pirates history displays fantastically. The scorecard portion is not scored, however the final score of the game is written neatly on the Pirates portion of the scorecard. This program is absolutely loaded with Hall of Famers including Honus Wagner, Fred Clarke, Max Carey, Bill McKechnie, Roger Bresnahan and Miller Huggins. 1915 The Champion Game Of Baseball Board Game

Up for your consideration is an exceptional example of the 1888 baseball themed board game entitled "The Champion Game of Baseball". The Champion Game of Baseball was published by the Proctor Amusement Company of North Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1889. The front of this box features a fantastic drawing of a late 19th century baseball batter and catcher on the field of play. The inside consists of a baseball field printed on the bottom of the box with a metal spinner in the middle, a rules sheet on the back of the top cover, and an envelope with nine blue and nine red cardboard disks. There is not a lot of strategy in this early game as each team uses the spinner on its turn to bat. Most of the results are either outs or hits (spaces for single, double, triple and home run), but there also are spaces for strikes, balls and base on balls. It is therefore possible but unlikely to get three strikes or four balls. There is one space for a foul ball, and any spinner stopping on a line is considered a foul as well. The one strategic option open to the batting team is whether to have base runners try to steal. In this event, the stealing team spins again, but uses an outer ring where the results are divided between "out", "safe" or "sacrifice" (where the runner advances but the current batter is out). An out result always picks off the lead runner. The condition of this early artifact is fantastic for being 129 years old.
