1968 Topps Posters Repackaged into 1970 Wrapper??
Hi all,
I collect mainly wrappers, but came across this unopened pack that seems very strange to me. It has a 1970 product code and appears to have 2 1968 posters inside? There is no Topps logo on front as it has been replaced with All Star and some of the players in 1968 were retired by 1970. Can anyone shed any light on this or know what markets these were distributed or anything else? I did not see any of these graded by PSA so assume they must be pretty tough? Thanks Much Jeff http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/i...pswhocw4lq.jpg http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/i...psij2rzgdw.jpg |
All 24 players in the 1970 set were still playing to my knowledge, so either that's not from 1970, someone repackaged another year's posters in to a wrapper, or I don't know what. Which players were in there?

The weird thing is, depending on what site you look at, they will show that Topps had posters from 68-73, or 68 and 70, or 68 and 72. I think maybe it's how they were distributed with some years being an insert, some years being a standalone, and some years that were put out only in certain markets.
Either way, for some reason I was never a fan. They always seems fairly thin and easy to rip. |

Here is a comparison of the 68 wrapper to the 70. These must be a reissue of 68's two years later.

I collected the entire '68 Set as a kid.... and proceeded to lose all of them. They were great at the time, as we were not worried about condition, holes or tearing. Just hung them up on the wall and admired them. I guess my biggest memory was getting Max Alvis over and over again, in hopes of scoring Pete Rose and Willie Mays. Finally got them all, including 6 Max Alvis and at least 4 Don Drysdale.
Looking back, I suppose that the paper is thin, and they tend to tear along the fold lines. Very hard to find these now in crisp condition, as most were "well loved" back in the day. |
Wrappers too.
Hi Jeff, I noticed this thread from awhile back. Tell me about your wrapper collection. Baseball?, football?, all sports? From what years does your collection span? I too collect wrappers, but only baseball. Tom
