So much for SGCs looking better than PSAs....
1 Attachment(s)
Seems like both companies are in race to see which cards' appearance in their holders can be compromised the most. I've noted earlier about PSA putting more and more under plastic or surrounded by baggy (including t206s) and see here below SGC ruining T3s now. I realize it's for security reasons, and SGC has been criticized for floating cabinets. But I, for one, will never buy a card which has a baggy over or around it, and I have almost none of same in my collection. Just an aesthetic choice. I wonder how much I am in the minority on this....

I'm all for protection, but yeah that process needs to be tightened up a bit.
|
Hideous.
|
That looks HORRIBLE! I would also never buy a graded card that looked like that. Is that them trying to get out of having to grade them by making them as fugly as possible?
|
People complained about cards shifting in SGC holder so this is what you get. This has very, very rarely been a problem for me and I am happy to take the slim chance for that given this alternative. Ditto for new PSA use of baggy etc. They should have a box on the submissions to check if you want to ask for no horrid extra "protection."

but why does it have to be a wrinkly mess?

SGC used to be a viable alternative. When did they get to be so shitty? After they made the move to Florida?
|
A piece of Mylar would not be all wrinkly, but they'd have to spend a buck on it. They're using $hitty poly bags instead.
They've known about this issue for years but refuse to fix it. I'm through sending them large cards. I'd say a third of the ones I've sent in have either cards slipping or flips flopping around loose. |
Sort of like taking a shower with a raincoat, or is that something else?
|
I haven't bought cards in quite some time but I would always pass on any card in a PSA holder with the plastic wrinkle look. Didn't matter how much I needed it or how long I had been looking. I just hate the way it looks and would rather not have it..

Quality control? WTF is that??
|
LOL.............WOW. :o
|
They may need to rethink their cross-marketing agreement with Trojan.
|
I have a few Beckett cards like that that I want to break out.
Imo, if you are going to spend the money and take the time to get them graded, you want to enjoy looking at them. With my Beckett ones, it makes it hard to see/enjoy them. |
Looks like crap! I hate the psa slabs with the plastic. Won't even buy them myself.
|
You know what kind of card never has this problem? A raw one.
|
I need to get a couple N173s graded, would SGC grade cabinets without the baggie upon request?

i don't understand people who say they won't buy a card in a XXXX holder because of how it looks. if you really like/need the card, buy it an TAKE IT OUT OF THE HOLDER.
it's like not buying a beautiful painting you love because you hate the frame. |

If you don't like the PSA mylar, you can reholder it for $7 and include a note to holder without it. Passing up cards that you want entirely for that reason is silly.

If you do this, what happens to say an oversized T206? Would it just knock around inside a space that is too large for it? |

At least SGC doesn't have a new giant logo on the front and back of their slab.
The card itself should get all the attention, not a third party logo. |
