Who's Your Collecting Doppelganger?
My favorite thread is the monthly pick-up, and it's fun to see dudes who seem to have the same collecting interests in terms of subjects and condition. Based on what I've seen, I believe I share some collecting DNA with Chuck Wolf and Jerry (jbl79). I share Orly's love of Cobbs, but not his budget for rare post cards. ;)
Do you have a collecting doppelganger on the board? |
Cool thread idea......
"Jcfowler6" and "cracker_jack" seem to always post Pirates pick-ups that I was either watching or was an under bidder. |
My doppelganger is Leon, when it comes to old hobby publications. Plus the fact that we were once both type collectors, though he went a lot farther with it than I did.

Bicem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am a combo of SMPEP, Old-baseball, and Brianp-beme

Postcards/Cabinet-Lew Type Cards-Leon Minor league/Postwar/Memoribilia-Jay Exhibits-Bob W Very appreciative of these fellows who have shared their knowledge with me over the years which some go back decades. Miss the card shows when you got to have a great conversation while talking shop. Same thing with the auction companies when you had to phone in your bid before the Enet. Heck, Barry talked me into buying two Just So cards on the phone during one of his great auctions. |
Asoriano I would think is mine
|
Probably Brian Van Horn.

Jeff Lichtman's dog.

Thank you, Glenn/brother doppelganger. |
Jake and I always seem to be after the same non Mantle cards. MattyC and I have similar interests as well, and quite a few of my Mantles came from him after he upgraded.
|
My collecting habits aren't very esoteric, so I have a few collecting doppelgangers. Off the top of my head:
the OP, Sam S. DeanH3 (Dean H.) MattyC aconte (Tony C.) 3-2-Count (Tony A.) Peter Spaeth (on more than one occasion Peter has posted a new card or a WTB thread and I either have that specific card or want that card as well) |
Luke (L) and I have very similar T206 interests and I'm sure we have bid against each other on many cards.
|
Mr. Jackpots
I have two: Dougie Jones and Bad Coop
|
In general, I would have to say my doppelgänger is John Dreker, with the following two exceptions:
(1) His Larry Corcoran fetish; (2) I am considerably better looking (despite my age). |
JC and Jeff, though they were at it way before me. I guess I doppelganged them. (That sounded gross)

Still looking
There's no one like me, according to my bride of 25 years.
But I am still looking for the other collector who is doing a SGC prewar HOF collection while simultaneously working on 20 sets of 1971 Topps FB. Mix in the T205 Master set and a Topps run from 1952 to 1980 and we would be mirror imaged hobbyists. Anyone? I didn't think so ;) |

robsbessette. We have been on the set run during a similar time and did some deals along the way. Although from a doppelgänger perspective I am sure he is much better looking and a better dude
|
Ive yet to run into anyone else doing a complete vintage run for players from a particular college. I'd love too though.
|
RepublicaninMass and vintagehofrookies are both working on signed 1950s Topps sets, though they are further along than I am. Jasonxmay and Lordstan also have very impressive signed sets in progress that I've spent a lot of time admiring.
|
Jason W. in the T210s. On other sets, there isn't one single guy who would qualify as a doppleganger. In the past when I was putting together the 1911 Zeenut set it was Steve Murray, Tim Sedlock with the E94s, just off the top of my head.
|
Many dopplegangers
Anybody who still has monster boxes of 1980's cards sitting somewhere in their house is my collecting doppelgänger.

A. He is very old B. I get his Larry Corcoran in the will You could always buy every card of an Old Judge player if you want. How about trying with Taylor Shafer? |
