Need Help with Harry Stevens
All--
A BBC tv producer has contacted me regarding a short video being produced in England about Harry Stevens, an Englishman from Derby who immigrated to Ohio, fell in love with baseball, and produced the first modern baseball scorecard and scoring system, and eventually popularized the ballpark hot dog. The production company needs images of early Stevens scorecards, from Ohio or later in Pittsburgh and/or New York, as well as photos of Harry when he moved to the US. I know this is a long shot, but if anyone has anything to share, you would receive full credit for any image(s) used. Please feel free to send them to me at my email address: mpeich12@gmail.com Thanks and I'll keep everyone posted on this. Cheers, Mike |
Michael, I pm'd some information. Could you post something on the board when is going to be shown? Thanks

I wrote and illustrated an article about Harry M. Stevens for the spring 2017 edition of my magazine '21: The Illustrated Journal of Outsider Baseball'. In doing the research I met with a guy who lived in Stevens' old town in Ohio and is about as big an expert as you can get on the guy. I'll PM the info...

Many thanks to everyone who responded, particularly Gary Cieradkowski, whose SABR article on Harry Stevens is an excellent and informative read, and Michael Cartaya. As soon as I have the release information for the BBC video I'll post it in this thread.
Thank you once again to this committed and helpful community! Cheers, Mike |
My favorite is when a photo I owned of Chicago Cubs players chewing tobacco was used in a Harvard Dental School video on oral cancer. The professor saw the image on my site and asked for permission to use it.

Hi Mike
Harry Mozley Stevens was quite an enterprising fellow. His Company produced Baseball Yearbooks, Programs, etc. into the 1960's.
I have many of the Harry M. Stevens publications, starting with this World Series program. Game 4 is scored in this program. http://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan7...Program25x.jpg .http://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan7...corecard25.jpg TED Z . |
