FT 1935 Babe Ruth Braves / Johnny Mize pre-rookie game action photo
2 Attachment(s)
This is a highly unlikely combination of HOF players, who you would never to find crossing cross paths in a game action photo. It was taken during Spring Training in March of 1935, when Babe Ruth was on his last legs with Boston Braves and Johnny Mize was a relative unknown player trying to break in with Cincinnati. Mize was returned to the Cardinals were he made his ML debut in 1936.
The caption on back says it all, just take a look at Ruth and notice the reference to Mize partially covered by the newsprint clipping. A definitive shot of Ruth in decline and a pre-rookie of a future HOFer. Jim--That is an amazing photo. I wish I had something to trade!
Cheers, Mike |
Even though you wouldn't expect to find them in a game photo together, they are related through marriage! The Babe's second wife Claire is Johnny Mize's cousin.
