Need help for pricing and authentificated a KSA 52 topps mantle
hi
i didn t buy baseball cards since many years so i need your help. I see in the last couple years price of rookie card like the 52 topps mantle card climbing a lot. i want perhaps buy this mantle and want to have your opinion on the corect value on that card thanks for your help https://i58.servimg.com/u/f58/11/52/54/64/image11.jpg |
5-8k assuming its real, if not real $300 if you say you found the card in your grandfather's attic
|
Lots of fake mantle rookies out there. I'd be very very worried about one that wasn't graded by either PSA, SGC, or BVG. Otherwise it's just too easy to get ripped off.
|
the card is in the biggest card shop in quebec canada...... don t think its fake but will be impossible to resell in a ksa holder?
|
Fakes have been seen in KSA holders.
Have you got a back scan? The last fake in a KSA was outed as it had a type I front and a II back. Looks shady to say the least, no reason selling that card in a KSA holder even as a 1 unless it's bad or you like to burn money. |
interresting the info that you seen fake in a ksa holder. any thread on this subject?
here is a scan of the back https://i58.servimg.com/u/f58/11/52/54/64/back10.jpg |
KSA hasn't got the best reputation, especially when it comes to baseball cards.
https://www.google.ca/search?q=ksa+g...hrome&ie=UTF-8 Personally, with me, and if I was in the market for one, I would likely avoid this one until I could have it verified by another TPG (PSA or SGC) or by someone who knows their stuff. Out of curiosity, and only if you want to disclose it, what are they asking for this one? There is some great info out there about spotting Mantle fakes and here are a few to help get you started. Good luck. http://bbcemporium.com/1952-topps-mi...terfeit-guide/ http://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=133602 https://sportscardinfo.wordpress.com...ey-mantle-311/ |
not a problem the asking price is 11 500 cdn so approximattly 8500 usd
thanks for all these link but i think i will pass on it. it is bad because the card is at only 2 hours from me so no custom fee like when i buy from usa. i have 11 000 - 12 000 cdn to afford one low grade right now. |

I think, based on what I have seen, that is the ballpark, price wise, for that card up here in Canada so it actually isn't out in left field as far as pricing goes but I would, if the seller will oblige, have him send it to PSA or SGC just to make sure first. If you really want it, tell him if he does that, and it comes back good, then you'll take it. I would assume the seller would eat the shipping/grading costs if you tell him you will pay his asking. Good luck, but be sure to search thoroughly first. |
yeah i will pass on it.
the store said to me he didn t send it to grade because the grading fee is 1000$ for psa... its a big reputable store in buisiness since 30 years at least. But i think he will need eventually to send it to psa. |

I have never submitted any cards to any grader, but if I were to send that one in, I would put it's value at under $4,999,00, which, I think they might agree with, and likely only charge $250 U.S. https://www.psacard.com/fees/ http://www.sgccard.com/GradingFees.aspx |
For what it's worth, nothing about the card screams fake to me. I have seen some terrible fakes in KSA holders though--ones that likely weren't put their by KSA given the grade assigned, but may have been later inserted. The only deal I remember ever backing out of was for a 52 Mantle graded bubble KSA as I just didn't feel comfortable and didn't want to eat the cross over fee if I was wrong.

My concern with the card is if it measures correctly; and in that case, for the price the seller is charging, I would want to make sure it was first. |

It's real
It's real. And it's worth $7400 give or take a few hundred.

My price estimate is an educated guess
And as for the card it looks completely authentic to me all day long.

Real
Real. Real. Real. Fairly certainly would be a PSA 1 if not altered. FYI I purchased a raw 52 Topps Mantle approximately 5 years ago in almost exact condition from a very long time owner who purchased it long before tpg's existed. As it was a direct person to person purchase I had the opportunity to take my time (2 months of continued research, emails, etc and got a reliable and confident knowledge thanks to many helpers). I would not hesitate to buy it if it was $5000ish.

In my honest opinion I think you could do a bit better with your stated budget of 11-12 k Canadian. Although the centering on that bad boy is stellar for 52 Topps.

i ll pass also because if in the futur i want to resell the card that will be impossible in a ksa holder.
i will stick with PSA i think with all your advice its the good way to go. there are many on ebay i will try to find a corect price with one of these seller. |

Like I mentioned earlier, your seller is offside if he thinks that card will cost a grand to get graded. My gut tells me, if you push the idea and show him the links/info on what realistically it will cost, he may proceed with that? Also, like what has been mentioned to you, suggest to him he will have a greater chance of selling it in a SGC or PSA slab, especially if it comes back graded. Good luck. |

Card is real. It actually looks pretty nice to me for a "1."

Nelson, seems like you have not posted in years, good to see you back.

Folks can say the card looks real from a photo all day long. The truth of the matter is that for that particular card not to be in a Big 3 slab is an incredibly huge red flag. Is it possible that it's real? Of course. But I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole.

Real or not, stay away. There are no free lunches, if it seems too good to be true......
|
The corner and border wear looks off to me. If this card is going to be the center piece of your collection, you should be able to find a better looking 1 for 10k or so, and get one in a PSA or SGC holder.
It would take a very good deal for me to gamble on a 52 Mantle in a KSA holder. This does not sound like much of a deal to me. I would pass. |
