Josh Evans - Lelands on CNBC
Josh Evans of Lelands was just live on CNBC discussing their current auction. Conversation focused on the Babe Ruth World Series Ring and Boston to NY contract but touched on vintage memorabilia and card markets.
Nice publicity for the hobby. I'm sure CNBC will post the clip online at some point. |
Will look for it. Thanks

obviously the ring is awesome, but i disagree its the holy grail of collecting. a uniform is far superior as memorabilia, something he played in versus an award.
|
This ring belonged to Charlie Sheen correct? Wonder why they link Charlie Sheen to the Babe Ruth signed baseball but not the ring?
|
|
Is anyone else turned off by Josh wearing the ring? Do you think he puts on the Ruth jerseys, too? It's hard to describe but something about it doesn't sit right with me.
|
Agree, seems totally unnecessary. If I was selling wouldn't do that. Sure many
folks have tried it on over the years but that's clearly not the vibe you should be going out of your way to put put there. |
I have no problem with Josh wearing Babe's ring---He is a wonderful spokesperson for our hobby--and it was a interesting interview---He pays a lot for some of this stuff, so let him have some fun.
|
I'm more offended by his shirt and tie combo.

Josh wearing the ring was probably done so that he never lost sight of it. If I was the consignor, I would prefer that he never took his eyes off it when it was off his premises. He wouldn't even hand it to the TV commentator when she asked to see it.

Agreed....seeing as how their company lost this one collector's "50 greatest NBA players" signed lithograph, not once but TWICE!!!!!!!!!
My bad..I realized that was Steiner's, not Lelands...... |
The mind shutters to think what Charlie Sheen may have done with it.

OK, after all these images in my head, plus the fact I don't know if Josh washed his hands prior, I won't be bidding on this item.
BTW, where did Ty Cobb's dentures ever end up? I could sure use those... |

C'mon now. Dang. This is a family show... |
I asked a non-sport auction house president if he wore white conservation gloves, and he said "Only when on camera." I later saw him on television wearing the gloves.
|
No issues with him wearing the ring.
I've known Josh for years, he's a good guy, have done several deals together. |
...
|
If you bid high enough he might give you the finger as well.

I have always liked Josh and he has spoken at a Net54 Dinner or two, also..
National news and big auction items are good for the hobby. I don't think Josh wearing it for a little while was that big of a deal. He was having fun. I would only hope he was careful with it, is all, and I am sure he was. That said I also hope he was only wearing it for a very, very short amount of time...*(as in minutes) as there should be no more wear to it. |
Josh said the following:
" If you look at what's been happening in collectibles or memorabilia - whatever you want to call it - or even art, a Basquiat painting just sold for 110.5 million ..." I am not sure why he had to mention art and Basquiat because memorabilia and collectibles are two completely different things. What do you guys think? Ranjodh |

My 82 year old dad lost weight and is able to wear his wedding ring again. so I tease him about his bling and how he's "dripping with jewelry."
