These are the saddest of possible words:
"Tinker to Evers to Chance." Trio of bear cubs, and fleeter than birds, Tinker and Evers and Chance. Ruthlessly pricking our gonfalon bubble, Making a Giant hit into a double – Words that are heavy with nothing but trouble: "Tinker to Evers to Chance." Lets see your best double-play combo! |

These are the saddest of possible words to many vintage collectors:
E91 Tinker to Evers to Chance Brian (if collectors knew better these wouldn't be such sad words...check out this link to E91 article: http://www.net54baseball.com/showthr...hlight=generic ) |
Tinker to Tinker, is all I got. We'll have to call it an unassisted double play! I just sold my Everses and Chances... :(

I ran across a collector on the BST page that had collected a lot of really nice cards of Evers. They were all great looking cards for the grade, so I bought several from him and ended up with a variety.

Ryan, neat idea for a thread. I'm sorry that I couldn't post sooner, but now that I've scanned them, here goes. I'm throwing in Mordecai Brown because he was my favorite player on the Cubs.

Great cards and photos, everyone!
Here's a trio, including a SC 460/30 "no print" from the ebay sales... (Why is it that I can't get my PSA scans to appear as large as the SGC scans?) |
Wonderful thread. Just to read that delightful poem again was a lift. I'm certain the poem carried enough lore and nostalgic wonder to enshrine them in Cooperstown, and deservedly so. After all, until 2016, the "W" had not flown over the North Side on the last day of the season, so to speak, since 1907 and 1908, when that trio of Bear Cubs were a major help towards sending everyone away in defeat!
Love the cards and photos, guys. ---Brian Powell |
