Nice Sean!! That is a lot better of a deal than the last Street Lenox that we discussed! Now, begin your campaign to convince us that it is brown ... :D
I picked up one of my favorite poses at a price that is a lot lower than I expected, the E107 Monte Cross. Quote:

Sorry that I cost you a few pennies on that one, I guess. ;) I shifted from that and ended up winning the T214 McGraw. Some very impressive prices in this auction, to be sure. Cheers, Steve |

Won a nice coupon...

That's a really nice Type 3, Rob, congrats!
My related question is, was anybody surprised at the realized price on the Type 3 Tinker? |
Congrats Rob - I ended up with the type 3 Tinker. I was very happy to be asleep by 12:30 last night; I am afraid that will hardly be the case next week when memory lane ends (sometime around 5:30am eastern...).
Steve, just saw your post. Yes, I, as the buyer, was surprised at the price! But I needed it, so consignor got a nice payday. |

I've been searching quite a while for a decent Red Cross HOF'er. Lost out on plenty. But finally won. Also won a T206 Merkle Lenox.

Thanks for sharing your pickup, Steve |
Great pick up Dave. I was your under bidder on that Marquard (but blew my load on a tinker). Enjoy and let me know if you want to trade for something!

Not in the same league as the stuff posted so far, but...

I lost the two lots I really wanted including the E222 Richmond Guy Titman. The quest to start the set continues:D I held off on the 3rd lot in the hopes something better becomes available in the days after the auction.

In light of the price inflation recently in Exhibits, I was floored to get this for $840 (all in). Ruth's final Exhibits card.
|
I picked up my first boxing cards. Not sure if it was a good price or not, but happy to get a complete set of 1910 E76 American Caramel Prize Fighters.

I had lost my entire collection in '07 and '08 with a divorce. It's good to start rebuilding.

Thanks. Not really too focused nowadays. Loved the photo quality and thought it went cheap for what it is. And I lost out on several other lots I wanted, but not wanted at the levels they went to. Another great REA auction. Many more auctions on the horizon....

2 Cobbs and a House
2 Attachment(s)
Last night was kind of surreal. In addition to watching and bidding on REA, my wife and I placed an offer on a house outside MSP as we're relocating for work. Though the house was on the market 2 days, we were informed that there would be multiple offers, so I used my baseball card strategy to throw in a "snipe" well above asking to act as a bit of a "top all." Learned late last night, well into extended bidding hours, that we got the house. So while a good deal of money was spent last night, I don't have the big card pick-ups to show for it. :D
I did manage to win these modest Cobbs. My favorite pose. I would normally avoid cards with marks on them, but I was drawn to the typed "right field." It reminds me of a modern art piece I can't quite place. |
May seem odd to post this in a "winnings" thread but it might be fun to see comments from people who actually "regret" a win. What I mean is when you bid early and seemingly low--presuming someone will outbid you but you'll have a chance to jump back in--but your bid holds up, and holds up, right to the end. Along the way you may wish you didn't have that money tied up there, or you look at the card or VCP or something else and now feel your bid doesn't look so "low" --and you pray for someone to top you near the end so you can rush and bid on something else....
Last night, for example, I happily lost a couple cards on late bids (both had come to look like bad ideas, especially one with a back issue I hadn't noticed) and so was able to bid and win something else. Also, I bid early on a swell Evers e95 SGC 80, at a well-under-VCP price, because as a type collector I had been looking for a nice e95. After bidding, however, I unexpectedly happened to win elsewhere another HOFer--at SGC 84. So: even at good price, I now had little interested in the Evers. Of course, I ended up winning it last night. No tragedy to be sure (given the price) but if anyone would like it now, let me know! |

I was in very early for my "marker" bids. However, a couple of weeks ago, on a Friday, I was looking as the 46/49 leaf short prints and put in a $6500 bid. I have every intention of building that set one day but I have a bunch of priorities in front of it. After about a week, I was still showing high bidder and was rehearsing my speech to my wife - we well as contemplating breaking them up and selling individually to get my money back - knowing full well that I would regret it when it came time to build the set. Eventually the outbid notice came and the price soared to 14k before BP so it wasn't even close but I have to find the disable bid button when the wine is flowing for future reference. |
managed to get my targeted lot:D, lost the other 4 I threw bids on fairly early in the auction.

Great stuff, everyone.
I'm excited to finally add a T206 proof to my collection. This example used to belong to Wonka, so I am happy to own it. |
