Has anyone had a good experience with selling a large T206 lot?
 

I'm sitting on about 400 of them and am toying with the idea of moving on to something else.

Just wondering if anyone has had luck with moving a bulk lot.

No personal experience, but larger size T206 lots always seem to do pretty decently at auction houses.

Many years ago (I guess around 1993-95), I sold a few hundred and more than tripled my purchase price - but, I still miss them.

Being that long ago, my experience may not tell you anything...as much as the market has changed since then.

You may want to 'cherry pick' some to sell later as singles.

I had a great experience on the BST here about 2 years ago when I sold my partial set of over 320 T206's. Can't remember who purchased it though. Seamless transaction.

Agreed - I do very well moving lots on the BST here.

For my two cents worth, I think to get a better answer you need to give more information. Such as:

1) Are the cards graded and if so, how many, by what company and what are the grades?

2) How many Hall of Famers are there, if any and which ones?

3) Are there any rare backs in the lot?


There is going to be quite a bit of difference in interest (and probably where you should try and sell the cards) based on this info. I mean, if you have 400 ungraded beat to death commons with common backs not as many people are going to want those as to say if you had 400 cards in VG-EX condition with some graded, some HOF's and some harder to find backs in the lot.

A few years ago I consigned 200+ T206's and 108 T205's with H&S. These were lower grade cards with mostly common backs, and there were Southern Leaguers and HOF'ers. These were not beaters, but probably would have graded in the 1.5 to 3.5 range. I was very disappointed with the results. I probably would have been better off selling them in small lots on the BST or on eBay.

Rick: If you don't mind, could you tell us what you got?

FWIW Im interested in a lot of at least 100, perhaps more, ungraded action shot commons :)

I have had a good experience at hunt auctions. They only take 15 percent seller commission opposed to the average 22 percent.
If u do Ebay pre war card collector (pwcc)
And Probst eine are good ones to consign too

Oh dear.

I appreciate all of the good advice and inquiries on the lot. There are certainly many different ways to explore when you want to sell something like that. I received a bunch of IMs on it and have found new homes for everything at this time.
