What you have is a mushball. It's like a softball. Used to play indoor or playground ball. Was designed not to roll or travel far.

In northeast Ohio they're called fumbleballs, and there are actual fumbleball leagues that combine the rules of baseball and softball. Very popular to play. I see examples of the balls at flea markets and antique shops all the time for $5-$10. Very common, on part with 20-30 year old softballs used in rec leagues.
