1961 Bazooka fake $2500!!
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1961-Bazooka...p2047675.l2557
Part question, part warning - The color doesn't look right - I believe this is a reprint. I heard there are a lot floating around lately. Anyone shed more light? |

I had to take the chance...I asked the seller if PSA says it is a fake if he would let me return it and he said he would. So maybe I was had, but at the most out $100 for shipping/psa review and shipping back to him. I thought the same thing with the color.

On second glance though, the inside covers should be brown cardboard. I have asked for a refund. I knew something was off :)

The more I look at it, the more certain I am that it is a reprint. As you mentioned the cardboard should be brown, not white. It shows through also in the way the images look printed on the white cardboard - too bright! Be curious to see what the seller says. Any mention of where he "acquired it"? Howard Ps. As mentioned I believe there are a bunch of these reprints floating around now - the white cardboard is the tell tale sign. |
Howard,
The seller said he has had it for "awhile". He did honor my refund request so I can't say he was a bad seller, but this does raise red flags. I can't believe someone would go through that much trouble to manufacture fake bazooka boxes. I was even offered 2k more than what I paid for it this morning from another collector. The brown was the dead give away... I saw your post this morning when I googled 61 Bazooka fakes :) Ben |
That's only the beginning of what's off about it.
The pics aren't great, but the printing on the ends and sides looks a bit blurry. Aside from registration problems which are usually clear, the printing should be solid and have really clean edges. Plus, looking at the end panel- the end panel is slightly yellowed but the back isn't?? Maybe if it sat on a shelf for several years, but then the back should have some shelf wear and it has none whatsoever. Second is the window edges. Originals were die cut, and should show a bit of rounding from outside to inside on the edges. The reprint looks scissor cut with unevenness and the cardboard pushed from the inside to the outside. Nice try, and a decent decorative display piece for $5-10. But not 1500. Steve B |
