repackaged auction - why?

http://huntauctions.com/phone/imagev...47&lot_num=767

Hunt's current Internet auction has lot 767 which is a repackaged rack pack. Except for knowing that Brooks and Ashburn are in the pack, why would someone auction this as a repack. And why would someone bid. Why not just say it is a lot of cards with Brooks and Richie. It seems to be a bit deceiving. Options, thoughts are appreciated.

Lot description

Because "repackaged" could mean in 1963, or it could mean last summer. I believe there are some years where there are authentic Christmas Rack Packs, but there are many years they never existed and have been created over the last 20 years. They have been debunked over and over on the PSA/Collector's Universe message board, but people keep bidding on them.
Hunt's probably told the consignor that they're not real to the 1963 timeframe, and they'll only agree to auction them with full disclosure in the listing. Good on them for explaining that they're repacks.

Maybe I don't understand your question, but the reason they are describing and selling it in their auction as repackaged is because the Christmas packs were "repackaged" and not an original rack pack. They were put together after the production year, and I'm sure in some cases years later.

To your second question as to "why would someone bid" I can only respond to why I would. I've purchased a couple of these since the card on the front was worth more than I was paying for the pack and in other instances just for the novelty of the pack.

Every now and then one of these holiday rack packs has a hidden gem....in this case, hidden right on the front of the pack....the fact that there maybe (hidden) gems is why people "bid" on these packs.

If this pack was made in more recent times, the person who made it left much money on the table.

Tried to post the letter I got from Mark MUrphy and his partner explaining their "find" of the Christmas rack packs ( his initial offering was 54-63), but can not access my Photobucket account at sea between Bora Bora and American Samoa .http://<a href="http://s1267.photobu...psc0602a73.jpg[/IMG]
