Baseball team in this Integrated team RPPC?
3 Attachment(s)
Is this top postcard a baseball team in this Integrated team RPPC? The person selling it justified it with these other 2 pc's below it, but I am still not sure.
Well, they ARE wearing sox. The other two photos have their equipment - how come they don't? So I voted option 3 in the poll. Very nice either way.
Oh wait I misunderstood the question. Looks like a baseball team. I've seen it up for sale a few times but not sure if it's the same example.
Man standing at left wearing a watch chain--not part of most baseball uniforms I have seen.
I am not an expert, but my vote was NO because their belt buckles are on the front. The other two images show that the belt buckles are either covered or put to the side to avoid injury.
Well may be a prison team but and that can explain no equipment or cleats . In the other two photos you definitely can tell that they have cleats on .
Holy smoke, right now it's split almost 3 ways....will it go one way or the other or the other :)?
I voted no. The only thing that is similar in those pictures is that the back row is standing and the front row isn't. There is absolutely nothing in that picture that is baseball related.
So their prison uniforms were baseball uniforms? Were the wardens dressed as umpires...! It's like the "Longest Yard" but on the diamond.
Getty says yes -
http://www.gettyimages.in/detail/new...re-id528122060 correction: Whoops, on my screen this is on top with the other one. I looked up the wrong one. I think the other is just a photo of lifers, not a team. |
So theres no equipment and no obvious uniform like the other pc, i vote no.
Could it b a beseball team that took a pic with not 1 player having his glove or bat or uniform? Sure... but then why take a baseball picture? |
There are a couple examples on the net of this card I saw. This link looks just like this one.
http://picclick.ca/Real-Photo-Postca...479476408.html I find it interesting that the sender writes quite a bit about their prison visit and the only note about the card is in the upper left corner that says "this bunch is in for life". This lends more to me believing these are just prisoners. |
I voted yes... baseball. The knickers, socks, and caps sure look like it to me.
Yeah I think its a Baseball team as well. No sure why a RPPC would be taken of 9 random lifers if not.
Yes, like the above posters, the combination of uniforms, baseball like pants with knee sox, baseball hats, 9 players (not 5 for a basketball team, not 11 for a football team). And the fact that these guys all look like ballplayers - about the right age and stature - no fatties or old men.
As far as the equipment goes, I'd guess that those guys didn't just have their gloves and bats available all the time and that the equipment was probably locked up when this photo was taken. |
Look at it from this stand point - why else would there be NINE guys clearly dressed like baseball players?
Definitely baseball. Rob M P.S. Lifers don't get access to weapons like bats and balls when the photographer visits. The other two photos didn't indicate that those guys were lifers. |
It's baseball... come in now... give us a harder question.
Baseball team? No way. Who would they play? Think they're going to let a prison team travel for games - especially lifers?
Home Field Advantage
They certainly would have "Home Field" Advantage.
I can also see why you might not want to give them bats for the picture. Patrick |
They have an endless supply of relief pitchers in the "pen".
Team anthem: "Bars and Stripes Forever".
Okay, everyone who said this was a baseball team is right and I was wrong.
Thanks to old threads, Shawn England posted a slide of the 1914 Fort Madison team and the player on the lower right of his photo matches the player on the lower left of this RPPC. There is also a match in his photo of the fella with the red and white cardigan. http://forum.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?p=868849 |

Bingo. Good call Justin. |
BTW the other two postcards represent the Nebraska State Prison teams. I have both of those postcards in my collection.
