eBay bucks in 2017
Will be interesting to see how stingy they are with the bonus promotions in 2017. I got more bonus promotions in December than I've ever gotten.
Happy new year to all. Many you find that card you've been searching for at 50% less than what you expected to pay. And then may you reslab it and get a bump up. |
Interesting. I haven't had a bucks offer for probably 6 or 7 weeks but my habits are the same. I would love to see how they decide to hand those out.
Happy 2017 to all! |
I haven't had any bonus offers in several months... aside from some great Net54 members who let us know about 'quick deals'. Thanks for that!
Base percentage for Ebucks is now 1% - down from 2% -they say the new ebucks system allows for more flexibility, but if you only use them to purchase BBCs, you are screwed. . |
I got $316.32 coming on Jan 3rd. I had 4%, 6%, 8% and 10% at various times. Hope they continue with the extra bonuses.
Also used Ebates.com and bought eBay gift cards at Target which gave me an instant 5% discount. Every bit helps. |
In the two plus years since I signed up for the Bucks and the bonus promotions I have received the additional bucks promotion one time. I used it to buy an unopened 1979 Topps football wax box that cost almost $1000 so I received almost $100 in bonus bucks. I had the seller ship the box to BBCE for authentication. The packs were 1979 wrappers and outer box with 1980 cards in them. Topps had reused the 1979 wrappers for some 1980 and 1981 cards so this sometimes happens. The wax seals were fine but the box went from being a $1000 box to being a $300 box. I returned the box to the seller and eBay took the $100 bucks from me when the seller refunded my money. My eBay spending is pretty close to the same every quarter except for the last quarter. I usually earn a little over $100 bucks every quarter at 2%. I earned $116 this quarter and $203 last quarter. I have talked to eBay a few times about the promotional additional % bucks and got basically the same response each time. Buyers that are included in the promos are picked at random and there is nothing that anyone at eBay can do to change that in the system. One of the times that I asked about it the guy I was talking with actually added $20 bucks to my total. This was probably a year ago. I still haven't been included in the promotion. END OF RANT

At the end of the year I kept a few more expensive cards on my watch list. Wonder if that affected how frequently I got bonus offers. Trying to push me over the line.
|
I never use the watchlist and I still got plenty of bonus offers.

I'd be curious to know if the account you got the bonus offers on is frequently (or ever) used for purchases other than when you get the bonus offers? My assumption has always been that eBay only sends the bonus offers to users with little to no recent purchases in order to spark some additional buying activity from them. Hence, the only bonus offers I ever get are on the account that I only use for selling Survivor memorabilia (and which never has any purchases on it). When I try to apply the offer to my usual buying account, (which never gets any offers of its own), it is disallowed. I just assumed that was because I frequently buy with that account, so there is no need for enticement. |
I figured the opposite: like casinos, I figured they were giving bonuses to the people who spent a lot (or at least more frequently) relative to others.
|
With the changes, I will more than likely only buy cards on eBay if I have an eBay Bucks bonus offer. 2% was reasonable. 1% is a slap in the face.

Since they started sending out individualized "bonus" offers, my buying account has not received any bonus offers, no matter how much I have spent per month. I am not a "high roller" on an individual purchase basis by any means, but do frequently make purchases totaling $1k or more per month. |
Odd, I think I got three in the last ten days of December. Probably a 4, a 6, and an 8.
Maybe they send them if you bit on a few prior ones. |
Might be worth mentioning; there is an email setting in every Ebay users account which dictates how they email you. Checking the box to allow them to send you special offers directly correlates with them sending you more bucks bonuses. I changed my setting this month and got 3 or 4 this month after averaging about 2 or 3 per year.
With that said, it does still seem that they selectively target users in "some way"; Im just not sure the formula they use. |
Actually I buy things all the time on eBay. I bought 167 items this past quarter and 32 items I received bonus bucks.

Here are some of the emails I received from eBay about Bonus Bucks.
|
I never get the promo emails; in fact I got an email offering me a promo rate as a seller, went to sign up, and was told I didn't qualify!
Yep, that's me with the bag of rocks on Halloween. |
I am not a big buyer on Ebay compared to what is being said in this thread and I won/bought 6 auctions this last quarter for small amounts. But, I received many bonus offers and took advantage of the ones with no minimum purchase amount. I used bonus offers on 3 of my 6 items.
I'm very happy with the 1% no minimum changes. Other than bonus offers, I never reached the $5.00 minimum amount to collect. 1% of something is always more than 2% of nothing. I do realize if you were meeting the minimum, you are losing half of what you would have gotten. Mike |

I receive promo emails from eBay somewhat frequently re the opportunity to get extra eBay bucks, which I am happy to take advantage of.
Yesterday, I received an eBay promo email re the opportunity to pay only a $10 Final Value Fee on the first 5 items listed during the promo period that sold for more than $100. This prompted me to decide list a few $300 - $600 cards that I have been thinking of selling/trading. However, when I proceeded to try to activate this promo offer, I received this message from eBay: "Unfortunately, this promotional offer is by invitation only." WTF?!! Val |

I checked General email promotions and also Seller email promotions :) |
One other thing I just noticed...
The 2%-1% drop is effective Jan. 1st, while the retraction of the $5 minimum isn't effective until April 1st. That SUCKS and is VERY stupid. |
