VERY RARE STYLE OF WHITE SOX JERSEY

$900 or Best Offer - paypal friends and family

Bobby Bonds ONLY played in 26 games for the Chicago White Sox during the 1978 (making this a very RARE jersey) before he was traded to the Texas Rangers. Combined, Bonds hit 33 home runs with 98 RBI during the 1978 season.

In his limited time with the South Side Hitmen, Bonds wore this navy blue Rawlings knit pullover jersey. Dubbed the “Leisure Suit” uniform, this size 44 jersey has “CHICAGO” sewn on across the chest in white tackle twill. The unique feature to this jersey is collar that gives it the “Leisure Suit” look, along with the length that was typically worn un-tucked. The back of the jersey has “BONDS” and his number “25” sewn on in white tackle twill. Not surprisingly, the jersey shows light use, given that Bonds only spent a short time in the Windy City. Given the age, the jersey is in excellent condition and the numbers and letters are still pure white. The red Rawlings tag is sewn on the inside back collar and this jersey comes with a full LOA from noted game used jersey expert Dave Miedema.

Sold for $2224.80!!!!!! just 2 years ago - must sell, get a bargain - makes a great Christmas Present for any SOX FAN!!!!

One of my favorite parts of Ken Burns' The Tenth Inning was the reminder of just how talented Bobby Bonds was. The 461 stolen bases and 332 home runs are really only part of the story. Bonds was also a three-time Gold Glove winner who posted a career OPS+ of 129; his era and ballparks depressed his raw hitting stats significantly.

Bonds, as previously stated, wore out his welcome with the White Sox by mid-May. One would think he'd be dealt for pennies on the dollar, but the May 16, 1978 trade with the Texas Rangers netted Chicago Rusty Torres and Claudell Washington. Torres was a valuable reserve outfielder, while Washington, just 23, had another dozen years at 108 OPS+ ahead of him. Bonds had started slowly in Chicago, but his .265/.356/.497 mark in Texas made for a solid 138 OPS+ in 1978.

Bobby Bonds joined the Giants’ coaching staff in 1993, the same season that his son signed with the club as a free agent. Four years later, Barry would join his father as the only two players in Major League history to have five seasons of at least 30 home runs and 30 stolen bases. The father and son duo are also two of only six players with 300 lifetime homers and 300 steals. Bobby Bonds was the second-youngest to achieve the milestone, next to his former teammate and close friend Mays, who is Barry’s godfather. Bobby and Barry Bonds have combined for 1,094 home runs and +220.1 WAR in 4,834 games. Most by any father son duo in the history of baseball.
Clearly one of the best players not in the Hall of Fame, it is easy to imagine a happier Bonds easily reaching that honor.
