Stunning e126 Ghost Image. Now with image, also see auction!
So what are the thoughts on this? I, along with a few other members, stumbled upon an absolutely ridiculous auction the other day. A little Mom and Pop operation in the middle of nowhere had a horde of T206, E90-1 and E126 and a few other E cards.
By a horde I mean two E126 Ruth's in PSA 3, a Blank Back Ty Cobb E103, several other Cobbs, a couple Cy Young's , Mathewsons, etc... Unfortunately so many of us found it that I couldn't afford any of the biggies despite having some backing, but I did score some nice stuff. The incredible find though, that I can't believe slipped through to me was an E126 Sam Rice PSA 1 MK. A number of the cards have the owner's name typed on the back and this was one of those. The "1" was a brutal grade as the card has plenty of appeal and no abuse, mainly light creasing to the paper thin stock, but what really caught my eye was the absolutely stunning ghost image. Even the team name and other print is crystal clear. I'm on my way to Valley Forge so if you want to see it there just ask, I'll get scans up on my return. The question is how do you market/sell this card, thinking about putting it up here for auction but making it a decent duration so all who like this kind of thing get a chance to stumble across it. Thoughts? |
Hi Scott,
FYI, I may be the universe's only avid collector of Sam Rice cards. Hence, I suggest that you will obtain the most satisfaction by selling your neat find to me at a teensy markup over what you paid for it. :D I will be attending the Philly Show on Saturday, and I look forward to seeing this cool card. I assume you will be set up at this show - right? Val |
I had the following card for a number of years before I think I sold it to Leon...

Cool, I picked up a boring, regular old Meusel too, but it's not as exciting. FWIW I think it's really weird that yours doesn't have the back text, mine has the ghost, which is even sharper than yours AND the regular back text.
Val, I'm booth 710. Also I have a very nice Yuengling Rice in my ebay store right now if you're in the market. |
Met Val today, great guy, but I suspect he won't mention how much he loved the card. :)

Yeap, it got sold to a board member in my HA collection sale, consigned to Mile High sometime after that and now it's back in my collection :)

Thanks Val, posting the image here as well but this baby is going up tonight!
Just some info. Hall of Famer Sam Rice card #29 card is graded PSA 1(mk) the mark is the original owner's name typed on the upper portion of the back of the card. The grade is rather harsh. There is a goodly amount of light to moderate creasing, but it doesn't touch his body or head, one does run through his shins. These cards are only slightly thicker than paper, and this one presents more than respectably for the grade. There are only 5 Rice in ANY grade on the PSA report.
