Yesterday Pittsburgh defeated Syracuse 76-61 on the gridiron.
On January 7th and on February 11th the two schools will meet in basketball. How many times will the football teams outscore their respective basketball brethren? A) 1 B) 2 C) 3 D) 4 E) None of the above Hint: so far Syracuse has scored more than 61 points 4 out of 5 times Pittsburgh has scored more than 76 points 4 out of 6 times. |
Sympathy bump.

I will go with A, 1 time. It would be an interesting stat if anyone tracked how often two teams played football and basketball in the same year with the football game ending in a higher combined score. I have to assume it's a rare occurrence.

Frank -
I have given this considerable thought and came up with this: If Pittsburgh scores more than 76 points 4 out of 6 times, they will win 3 of 6 times if Syracuse scores more than 61 points 4 out of 5 times; conversely, or even Adidas-ly, if Syracuse scores less than 61 points 1 out of 5 times, they will not win a single game when Pittsburgh scores less than 76 points 2 of 6 times (assuming at least one game is against Syracuse) but more than Syracuse's point total in the same game. I'm glad to have cleared that up for you...statistically. lol go |

Syracuse won 77-66 Pittsburgh won 80-75 So the correct answer is (A) one time In their loss to Syracuse in basketball, the Pittsburgh basketball team was out scored by the Pittsburgh football team.;) It would have been foolish to bet against a pokerplyr80.:D:D |
