FS: Walter Johnson 3 page letter circa 1910 w/ great baseball content
4 Attachment(s)
I acquired this from the Christie's auction earlier this year. The 3 page letter (on Hotel Richmond stationary and measuring 8.5x5.5) for sale is a correspondence between then 22 year old Walter Johnson and the promoter, D.A. Fletcher in regards to an All-Star Barnstorming tour. The letter has PHENOMENAL baseball content and reads as follows:
"Mr. D.A. Fletcher
Toledo, Ohio
Dear Sir:- I certainly do hope we can go ahead and play those games. I am ready and more than willing to go ahead at any time and I know the boys here are. I will hold my contract and check and hope we can go on and play. I think the National Commission is going too far. We have the consent from all our managers and owners of the clubs so why should they but in and stop us. They just want to run everything that comes up and want everybody to know it and I think is about time the ball players should have a word anyway. I think we have played all summer under them they should mind their own business and if our owners are willing to let us go on and play. I sure hope all the players stick and we can go on and show the National Commission up. I am going to Coffeyville, Kansas after we are through here so if we play I will come from there.
I am yours truly,
Walter Johnson
