1923-24 Exhibits Babe Ruth White Border

I've had this card for a couple years. When bought it, it was mislabeled as a 1921 Exhibit. I just got it back from SGC in a new holder. I was just curious to learn some more about the card. From old threads I've read I think there may have only been about 4 known copies before this one? That could be off a bit and those were guesses I imagine. Those were old estimates I think the current PSA pop is 3 and SGC is 3 as well (was 2 I guess before this one was just changed). Although I wonder if some 1921's could be mislabeled or if any are resubmitted cards? I don't think I've ever seen one in a PSA holder, although I had heard of the PSA 1 selling years ago. I've never seen it or the other 2 higher graded PSA examples. Perhaps one of these may be the copy that sold years ago in Lipset auction?

I was pretty shocked when I just saw the grade 1 copy go in REA for $8400. That copy was far far better than mine with the right and left sides cut off though. The front was gorgeous on it but it had glue/paper residue stuck to the back. I was bidding on it for a while hoping to upgrade but it ended out of my price range. Congrats to whoever got it, if they're possibly a board member. Definitely a great looking copy!

I also don't know if that newest copy was one that had been accounted for in the earlier thread estimates. I believe I once saw a 1921 (no border) mislabeled as a 1923 too. Although that may have been corrected?

SGC shows 3 total copies. My grade A, The 1 from REA and a 2.

Anyone have one on the board? I'm pretty sure at least one member did and maybe still does? Anyone know of any ungraded ones out there?

Curious to hear from anyone on guesses of total population for this card and how it stacks up to Ruths other really tough cards?

Thanks!

P.S. While I'm sure my copy is the ugliest of them all. I feel lucky to own one!

Cool PC Erick - I didn't even know that such a variation existed. Thanks for sharing - hopefully we'll see a few more here.

That is a very difficult Exhibit. Here is a scan of the PSA 1 that sold back in 2010 for $3,250.

Thanks Bryan. And thanks for the scan Kevin!

That PSA 1 looks great for the grade too. I'm assuming maybe it has some back damage.

Congrats on the Ruth!!! It's a super tough card, I have owned 2 and seen another 3 including the Heritage one in over some 15 years of collecting exhibits, I believe that less than 10 exist. I still own one, the SGC 30, which I did crossover from a PSA 2 years ago so the pops are a little off. One of my favorite cards!

Wow, Great card Scott!

Looks like the 3 SGC copies are confirmed now! That's awesome having once owned 2 of those. That one's certainly a keeper!

I absolutely love that card and image. I don't have the card but do have the monster TYPE 1 original photo. It is from spring training of 1920. The image is one of his first in a Yankee uniform and a prize in my collection
I absolutely love the 1923-24 lighter/rarer variation vs 1921. Congrats on your addition!
