OT or Not: Today's Gripe

What sticks in your craw?

Sound off about any sports related gripe, vintage or not, baseball or bowling, but like Jeopardy put you gripe in the form of a question.

If you are perfectly content, you may respond to someone else's question in the form of a sentence.

If a gripe is posted on any given day, feel free to post yours as well. There is no reason to sleep with an unposted gripe on your mind.

Let's get this rolling.

90% of the time, is there any reason to watch the second half of an Alabama football game? One competitive game this year, c'mon man. Can't wait for next week's match up with Chattanooga.

sando69 11-12-2016 01:09 PM

let's make it a true daily double, alex...

"who gives a flying fidaddle about Alabama football?"

:D

HRBAKER 11-12-2016 01:17 PM

There's no conference out there where they would remotely get a weekly test.
Yeah they smoke most opponents but it's not just the weak sisters.
As a UGA fan I've gotten used to it.

Joe Buck announcing a Cubs World Series.....ugh like nails on a chalkboard. Why is it allowed?

Why is it when I am close to a 300 the 10 pin ends up standing firm like a 30 year old who took Viagra ??

drmondobueno 11-12-2016 02:06 PM

Why is is at Dodger Stadium the traffic is going the opposite direction of the parking spot you want?

ValKehl 11-12-2016 02:45 PM

Why isn't the U. of Alabama football team a NFL team?

Peter_Spaeth 11-12-2016 03:11 PM

Why is it that the Red Sox rehired John Farrell?

Well, for one thing some of them would have to take a pay cut. :D

I don't really know if this is true, I just thought it sounded funny.

Sean, your comment got a good laugh outta me! I doubt that many, if any, of the Alabama players enrolled in that university with the intention of getting a legitimate education.

I'll take the Detroit Lions for $500 Alex....

The answer is, I haven't a fu@(\ing clue...

How does one family get away with owning a professional football franchise for 54 years despite winning exactly 1 playoff game that entire time?

quinnsryche 11-12-2016 05:35 PM

Why do the White Sox refuse to hire a manager with any kind of solid experience or a track record of winning? Robin Ventura, Terry Bevington, Rick Renteria (ugh, ex-Cubs manager for 1 year), Jerry Manuel, Gene Lamont, Jeff Torborg, Ozzie Guillen (got lucky with that one). What an absolute suckfest of shi**y managers since Tony LaRussa who never won anything until he left Chicago. I just don't get it.

Now that this contentious election is final over, I can't help but wonder why neither candidate, when discussing American greatness or lack of it, mentioned
the fantastic 2016 performance of our drug free American Olympic athletes, hauling away a record number of medals, totally eclipsing all other nations. On a lesser scale, how about our Ryder Cup team, winning the cup back on American soil? I am only sorry that Arnold Palmer, who died the week before, didn't have a chance to see the gripping finish. Arnold Palmer was a great man who never doubted America's greatness.

cliftons8 11-13-2016 11:45 AM

Why does the field goal kicker get credit form the where he kicks the ball and the punter gets credit from the line of scrimmage?

Why is a RIGHT handed batter pulling a ball to LEFT field and a LEFT handed hitter pulling the ball to RIGHT field?

ALR-bishop 11-13-2016 12:14 PM

How many here were once a "true freshman" ?

I live in mobile (the belly of the beast)

Saban has just built that program in unbelievable fashion.

Most really good programs have 3 deep at most important positions.

Bama is literally 4-5 deep at every position of the field. Their second string units as a team would be top 10.

Saban has head coaches working for him that never see the field..they only recruit.

Saban has more coaches on his recruiting staff than Florida has on its entire coaching staff.

He has a literal blank check for anything he wants.

PolarBear 11-13-2016 08:51 PM

Why does Florida have baseball teams? Florida is for spring training!

Why in fantasy football does it count against your defense when the opposing defense scores.

I've asked this before without getting an answer:

Why are there exactly 43 cars in a NASCAR race?

Todays gripe for me is why is there so many fun haters on this forum? Any joke posted is turned into a hate fest on the poster. It is a joke people, you are the one turning it racial, political, sexist, or religious. Ok I have 2 today. Why the heck can't everyone just leave the most enthusiastic and passionate collector on the planet alone when he posts here? Mouschi collects his way and is an amazing gentleman if you don't like his style please don't post crap in his threads. He basically avoids this forum because of a few bad apples.

This is 100% a joke if you want to make more than that out of it you are the problem.:)

Leon 11-14-2016 08:10 AM

If members put their names next to their posts they can say pretty much what they want to on this forum, per the very open rules. If members don't like that then there are lots of forums to go be anonymous in. If someone gets their feelings hurt that is just too bad. We can give them a participation trophy like the millennials get. :)

Leon, in addition to your name, you must post your gripe in the form of a question, per the very open rules of this thread. Touché.:D

Why, when you have a bunch of apples, are there only a few that are bad apples?

Try this place. Largest candy store in Ohio, and possibly the U.S. If they don't have it, probably doesn't exists anymore. You can buy and order online, and no, I do not work for them.

Why do I continue to root for the worst team in the NFL?
(1.5 hours before game time. We actually had a nice crowd in attendance)

Why WERE there 43 cars in NASCAR races?

To answer your Nascar question:

Quote:

Best Answer: Back in the old days of NASCAR, there were some tracks where there were no limits, such as Darlington (as many as 75) and Daytona (in the 50's many times). Over the years the size sort of evolved. It was 40 for the large tracks and 32 for the small tracks in the late 70's and early 80's. Then if was 42 for large and 36 for the small/short tracks. Then the champion's provisional took it to 43 and NASCAR made 43 universal at all tracks including thee small/short tracks, like Bristol. As good explanation is at NASCAR.com:
Quote:

NASCAR started playing with the size of the fields five or six years ago. Different tracks used to start different amounts of cars in each race depending mainly on how many pit stalls the track had available to use. NASCAR wanted to standardize the size of the fields and after some trial and error, settled on a field consisting of 36 qualifiers with six provisionals that could be used by the regular drivers. That's a total of 42 cars.

The story about the odd car, the 43rd starter, began about twelve years ago when Richard Petty was having trouble making the starting lineup. NASCAR created a Champions Provisional to help get Petty into the field. In fact it could be used to help any present or ex-champion but just recently was used for other drivers, if a Champions Provisional wasn't used. It goes to the car owner with the highest points that didn't qualify on speed.

NASCAR was happy with the standardization and stuck with that number even though some drivers had to share pit stalls at some tracks before they were brought up to the present standards. They could run more at some tracks and they probably should run fewer cars at others, but it's a standard 43 cars now
Quote:

The first Southern 500 in 1950 had 75 entries and the following year it had 82 or 83 and took 6.5 hrs to complete. Imagine if we had that now a days? That would be wild!
Quote:

Prior to the modern era of NASCAR(mid 70's) the NASCAR fiels had anywhere from 16 cars(1/4 mile tracks) to 60 plus cars on large tracks(Talladega-Daytona-Road corses).
With the startof the modern era different amounts of cars were used,34 or 36 on the half miles and 45 on the large tracks. The adding of provisionals to the quailifing list .the number was set at 43 to fit all tracks.
Most people say because this was Richard Petty's number butit was a random number chose by NASCAR
