Bat Question
There are some on Amazon for $94 in paperback. Hardback ones are very expensive. You might want to type in Vince Malta. Hope this helps. Sam

Invaluable book if you are into bats. I didn't know there was a HB version!

I wasn't aware of a hard cover copy either. I actually own two of these. My first copy is starting to have pages fall out so when one was offered on GUU a couple years back I picked up a backup copy.

possibly on ebay
Pretty sure I picked mine up on ebay in the last year or so.

I have an extra if you'd like to make me an offer. Sorry about the glare, the book is in nice solid shape.

A Complete Reference Guide...
Any one have any updates to where you might be able to find this book for sale? Besides Amazon for $650 to $3,600. Seems like there might be a digital version that one could purchase. Obviously there's money to be made by the publisher if they would. Thanks for any info.

Dont believe I have his contact info any longer but Zane Bats sold me my copy a few years ago based on a tip from fellow net54 member that he had a few extra copies. Im pretty sure he goes by zanebats on ebay so you can look him up there.

Wow, shocked at those prices!
I didn't think I bought mine so long ago, but I got mine on Amazon in October 2013 for $39.85 :) Steve |
It's all about supply and demand. With something like this, if you really need it, sometimes it's worth paying twice as much to have the info now rather than risk waiting months to save a few bucks.

This is from a book compiled by Dave Bushing and Dan Knoll. Not much info but it’s all I have. Whoops. Picture is too large to upload. No model numbers provided. Just a length of 34-36 in. and a weight of 40 oz. Value $10-15,000. |

Tris Speaker bat info
Hello Trublubrucru, thanks for sending those pics. Excuse my ignorance, but regarding the text on the chart that reflects-.... His ##/##.#### off --- Can you advise, I'm assuming His is abbreviation for Histroy? Do you know what the text is referring to when it says "off" and then "name" ?

If you let me jump in here, I might be able to help. I also have the book. "His" simply means exactly what it says: His (Tris Speaker's) bat. The date is the date the order was catalogued by H&B. The name after that is simply the name of the player whose bat was used as a "template" for (in this case, Tris Speaker's bat). This was before H&B started assigning model numbers to a player's bat. Looking specifically at Speaker's records, there's a reference to "His 8/21/23 off Sheely, Earl". So Tris Speaker had an Earl Sheely bat that he returned to the factory for a slight modification. Could be a thinner or thicker handle, larger or smaller knob, larger circumference barrel, etc. The new model resulting from that change would then be referred to as "His 8/21/23" the original bat would have been side written with grease pencil and quite likely a lathe pattern bat would have been produced to use as a template for future orders. I did also send you PM awhile back offering to help as I am fairly familiar with bats of this era since it's the main focus of my collection. |
