REA - what'd ya win or lose on?

First time bidding in this auction and ended up winning lot #705 - 1914 Cracker Jack Honus Wagner SGC 10. First Cracker Jack card ever purchased!

What'd everyone else win or lose on?

khkco4bls 10-31-2016 08:54 AM

I had 60 lots of strictly memorabilia in this auction I'm sure somebody won some of mine

Billyscards 10-31-2016 09:00 AM

was happy about landing the '48 Babe Ruth signed Letter and Book. Missed out on the '24 Game Used WS ball which was pretty neat.

my lot

I won the 10 card lot of Polar Bear T206s 9 PSA 5s and one PSA 6. Not a common back but harder to find in 5 or above.

Very happy with the four lots I won - the e94 with the upside-down back, the tough violet e94 Cobb, the small lot of Obak ghosts (appropriate for Halloween) and my very first postcard, a really nice one of Frank Chance.

I think in this group of four, there were couple I had to pay a little more aggressively for due to competition, but there were also a couple that I won for a really great price so I think it all balances out in my mind.

Regardless of what time it ended, it was a great auction with a wide variety of material. Always happy to take part in an REA auction :)

I won this and probably overpaid for it but it is my first Wells auto.

I missed out on a Ruth auto and they had a ton of them for sale.

I won a '33 Goudey Ruth but lost out on the group of D381 Yankees. If anyone bought that lot with the intent of breaking it up I am interested in one of the cards.

Who on earth paid 10K plus for a 56 Mantle in 6.5?:confused:

Someone confident that he can get it into a 9 holder?

That's $7500 more than a PSA 7 Gray back Mantle sold for at Goldin the night prior:eek:

One would think. Or someone overly influenced by the recent centering mania. :)

I was the high bidder on the red PSA 5 Cobb forever but got outbid the last day or so and it got out of my price range. Changed my direction and was bidding on the PSA 3 Crackerjack Wagner but that also got above my price range so I 'settled' on picking up two nice Mathewsons (T205 and Brunners). Always wanted a Brunners. I think they are beautiful.

Snapolit1 10-31-2016 11:26 AM

The Brunners are very beautiful. Flirted with the idea of buying one of the larger groupings in RE and taking a run at the set. Didn't pull the trigger.

Overall I did pretty well. some Lots I thought was stolen right out from under me and other ones I did fantastic on like the 38 and 39 Black bats. One thing I learned never group a lot of items together I was not happy about doing that and it didn't work out. The young ladies baseball club broadside also did very well I bought that with eBay years ago for like 400 bucks. The 2 items I was very disappointed on was the Clarkson cigar box and my lemonade set I could not believe that only got 1 bid I thought I would do much better on that item. OH WELL..

margoaepi 10-31-2016 11:31 AM

Picked up the E94 Jennings for what I think was a pretty fair price.

fduran27 10-31-2016 11:47 AM

Picked up the Mars attacks graded set....
:)
I know not baseball, but thought it was a good price.

I love the Cobb "jumpman" image on the E93s, E94s, and E98s. Also upgraded XX.

I was very happy to pick up the E126 Walter Johnson.

Recently I saw an article, or it may have been a thread on here, of pictures of the Burdick collection at the Met. I loved how he took the 1949 Bowman Paige, Robinson, and Doby cards and displayed them. It's driven me to get strong color /strong registration examples of each. Already have the Paige, and added this one from REA last night!

Someone started a thread on thag one on the postwar board too. It is puzzling to say the least. A PSA 8 sold in the same auction for less, and the 7.5 much less. And there is a little paper loss in the upper right corner. I'm sure the consignor is pleased.

I'd missed one of these on eBay a couple years back and regretted it. Ended up going a little higher than I wanted, but snagged this one last night.

Couldn't be happier with REA service overall. I called with an issue (that's since resolved itself) and they picked up, were very polite and responsive, and I knew they'd take care of it if needed. I was surprised by the earlier bid deadline, but as it played out, it seemed really smooth. May have been more difficult had I been out and about yesterday, but there's really no perfect "catch all" solution for everyone in every locale.

MR RAREBACK 10-31-2016 04:03 PM

Nice, Glenn. Same graded card sold on e-bay recently for a bunch more moola. I was on the fence on that one, but I committed my money a few days before and was out on everything from REA. The Clements are really nice. I didn't win anything at REA, but I don't feel I lost either, since I got something I really have wanted for a long time now instead.

Shut out. Liked a few of the old photos but didn't go high enough.

Glad to see the Jackie 48 Leaf PSA 7 went for something like $24,000. Equally glad no one bought my SGC 80 last month on B/S/T for $6,500, which looks at least as nice as that 7.

Always wanted this card. Happy to finally own one. I think it presents pretty nicely for the grade and I was happy with the price. Really excited to have it.

I got skunked. Even went balls to the wall on one lot and doubled what I had budgeted and still was underbidder.

Gah!!

Feel your pain, but so many good auctions coming. Upcoming Heritage Auction is great. Also Love of the Game. And of course another PWCC raring up. More fish in the sea as they say.

Awesome looking PSA 1

Bosox Blair 10-31-2016 07:35 PM

Congrats to everyone who landed something - nice stuff shown here!

I was bidding on about 30 pre-war lots - most went for what I considered fair market value, a couple went way higher, and a couple were good bargains. This is my 10th year of bidding with REA and I feel like I could have said the same about most of the REA auctions over that timeframe.

(Cannot comment on post-war as I don't care about that at all, and I am frankly baffled and a bit bemused by what has happened recently with these very common, mass-produced cards.)

In terms of the new closing format, I found it to be fine. I am a West Coaster, so usually was told by East Coast friends that I had a big advantage. This one came out no better or worse for me...about the same I'd say! (Even though I was out for dinner when it closed, and I used my phone to monitor the auction for the very first time. Worked well...even if I felt a bit rude at dinner...lol.)

Cheers,
Blair

kailes2872 10-31-2016 07:46 PM

I had early bids in on about 15 lots. I ended up getting shut out. The bummer was that the next bet with BP put it out of my range. I was really interested in the DeLong set, the Tattoo Orbit set and the Diamond Stars set. While the prices were VERY reasonable - I decided to wait until the spring when I am flush with more cash. The 54 Bowman set went for $1000. The Ted Williams Fleer went for $800 and had a PSA 7 Teds signed. There was a lot of value out there.

Hopefully, the prices stay reasonable for the spring auction and I can get some pre-war complete sets.

I assume that has to have some back damage...because from the front that sure ain't no SGC 10.

I ended up getting the EPDG lot. I think 7 of the 10 could be the highest graded.....should I send them back to PSA for new holders? Not sure how that works.

The Smith card is my white whale. I've never seen one for sale and cannot find any record of one being sold. Absolutely thrilled to have him.

211 uniques!

Congrats on the beautiful cards!

As you probably know, all of these EPDGs in your lot were graded before PSA had half-points. So, if you feel these are real strong 6s, you could pay to have them re-graded - seeking the half-point bump - and re-holdered in the new and improved holders that are meant to be more secure.

Cheers,
Blair

I was hoping the SGC "A" grade would enable me to win this N370 Lone Jack for my limit of not more than $3,000. :(
