Victor Wright & Ditson Baseball

Hi, I don't collect baseballs but wanted to pass along on behalf of one of my friends. The pictures are not great but looks like a Victor Wright & Ditson baseball.

Anyone know the approximate dates for this type of ball and value? It looks like this ball but certainly not mint condition. Thanks.

Victor Ball

George,

I'm not a baseball guy, but I do know that Victor and Wright & Ditson were consolidated in 1918, and that the company was renamed the A.J. Reach, Wright & Ditson Company in 1928. So, the ball would date to between 1918 and 1928.

Hey Chris,

While I completely agree with the information you listed, it should also be noted that the Victor brand name continued to be marketed in Canada, independent of the Wright & Ditson / Reach monikers.
This practice appears to have continued on into the 1950s, as I've had Victor store model bats with player endorsements from that era.
I should also point out that Canadian Victor items are fairly scarce.

Thank you guys for the dating....very helpful! I think the owner of the ball believes it to be worth much more than it really is so if other folks have ideas on value, I'd appreciate it. I can't find any previous sales.

There is one on eBay for over 12000 dollars. Really.

Exactly it's the same ball. It's a friend of a friend and I told him that that price tag is off by at least a few digits but that I would see if someone has a better sense for value
