1889 Athletic Sports in America for sale
 

The 1888-89 baseball World Tour is arguably the most historic of all the international tours. Sportswriter Harry C. Palmer joined the ballplayers for their trip around the world, and chronicled it in this massive volume which was published in 1889. This 700+ page book has a brief history of baseball, followed by a comprehensive journal of the ballplayers journeys over the globe. Besides the well written text, there are four illuminated plates, and numerous black and white photos of all the major league teams. The result is unquestionably one of the most beautiful and important baseball books ever written.

This particular volume has light general wear, a little weakness to the hinges causing the end papers to slightly loosen. There are some pages with blue stamps reading Wannamaker, likely the place where this book was originally purchased. I believe all the protective tissue papers issued with the book are intact. Overall VG+ condition, and better than average for this large and heavy text.
