Unopened 1967 Topps cello pack
picked up 5-10 of these back in the early 1980's at Brimfield, and being a teenager (= dumbass, in hindsight) I opened all
but one (1) of the packs, pulling a few Mantles and a few Carltons... MY question is: should I bust open my one (1) remaining pack - WS card showing on top - or: a). leave it sealed - make a few hundred bucks on an ungraded sealed pack b). make a few hundred bucks+ getting it graded/consigning or selling or c). WTF!!!??? open the pack and hope/pray for a home run (possibly a gorgeous high-grade freakin' Mantle or Carlton)??? curious for input. DS |
I vote B.

Open the pack that is what they where made for.:)
|
To me, that is the conundrum / mystery / value of unopened material. Only you can answer that question! Good luck if you do open it.
|
Open it!
I don't really know what the most sensible or profitable answer to your question is? I only know that I could not, in any form resist..... OPENING IT!
|
What's it worth?
What is the current retail on a 1967 cello pack?
|
If you don't need the money, get it graded and hang on to it, nothing is certain but I'd feel pretty comfortable that value will continue to increase.

Packs
I keep at least one unopened pack with each of my Topps, 1951 to 2016. Never tempted to open them since whatever is in them is likely to pale next to what I like to think is in them. I enjoy the mystery.

That's awesome. You should encourage him to share a photo on net54. I'd love to see a picture of an unopened 52 Topps box.
|
I would love to see those boxes, probably 5-6 Mantles in there. That's one flush friend!

+ 3 or so. I am not a box guy. How do you tell a high number box from other boxes ? I think someone has been trying to sell a high number empty case. I don't know how to distinguish cases either I think I bought my 52 pack when someone broke a box sometime back. If you had two such boxes and decided to cash out would you sell the packs individually and then the empty box, or each box full, or both boxes together full. |

I have NEVER seen a 51 bowman 5 cent pack available for sale. If anyone knows if one, pls let me know because I need it for my collection!! Thank you!! |

LOL, Lou. You and I were thinking the exact same thing!!
http://i.imgur.com/AEVT2M6.jpg Henry Bemis, alone with his '52 Topps, in a card shop otherwise known as....the Twilight Zone. A man in a business suit crawls up a hill, through the dust. He spies a crumbled sign that reads "Woolworths" to his right. A little further up the hill, among an assortment of toppled book shelves, some still filled with 3-ring binders and plastic sheets, there are piles of unopened '52 Topps baseball card boxes. "Collected stacks of Mickey Mantle....stacks of Eddie Matthews, all neatly organized with rubber bands.....Jackie Robinson....Campanella......all the great rookies of the world, all the future Hall of Famers. Baseball cards. Baseball cards! All the cards I want, all the cards I need....all the cards.....ahhhhh! "Spring training, Opening Day, April......May......June.....July......" The man sits down, three boxes of '52 Topps wax packs lovingly cradled in his arms. "And the best thing, the very best thing of all is there's time now, all the time I need, and all the time I want. Time...time...time enough at last!" He leans over to lovingly set down two boxes, when his glasses fall off his nose, the lenses breaking on the concrete below. He opens the first pack, and the name "Mantle" slowly reveals itself. But, the man sees only a blur... "That's not fair. It's not fair at all. There was time now, there was....all the time I needed. It's not fair, sobbing...." Quote:
