FS: 1927 Toledo Team Signed Ball Casey Stengel 1st Championship + John McGraw!!
Quite likely the only 1927 Toledo Med Hens team signed ball in existence, this ball hails from the first ever managerial championship in the career of legendary Hall Of Fame manager Casey Stengel.
Also likely one of the very few balls in existence containing two of the most revered managers in MLB history. and likely the only signed by both when they were managers!! The ball was shellacked long ago, and has toned over the years and the shellack has chipped in spots, which is customary with such balls. The ball is an Official American Association ball. McGraw fought hard to get Stengel to manage his top farm team in Toledo. Stengel had been a first year player manager with Worcester, which was the Boston Braves top farm team. Stengel at the time was Worcester player manager and team president. Famously, to get out of that gig and move to Toledo for McGraw, Stengel quit as a player, fired himself as manager, and resigned as team president. Thus the involvement of McGraw on the ball does make sense. Stengel and McGraw reside ON THE SAME PANEL!! There are 26 signatures on the ball, including major leaguers: Roy Grimes (died 1954) Freddie Maguire (died 1961) Rosy Ryan Bill Marriott (died 1969) George Milstead Bullet Joe Bush Walt Huntzinger Everett Scott (died 1960) Byron Speece Bevo LeBourveau (died 1947) Ernie Maun Luke Urban Pete Cote Johnnie Heving (died 1968) Irish Meusel (died 1963) John McGraw - HOF - (died 1934) Joe Kelly (died 1967) Casey Stengel - HOF - (died 1975) Pip Koehler Jesse Barnes (died 1961) Mickey O'Neil (died 1964) Jeff Pfeffer (died 1972) Bobby Veach (died 1945) http://i792.photobucket.com/albums/y...psbu1uoodi.jpg http://i792.photobucket.com/albums/y...pssydaj6rr.jpg http://i792.photobucket.com/albums/y...psc92jqhv8.jpg Asking $1,375 delivered Tom C |
