How I Stay Closer to My Cards

4 Attachment(s)
There have been a bunch of great threads on how people display their cards and how to protect them. I started to put them on the walls in cases or in frames with cool pictures but I worried about the UV and safety. So I came up with a different idea I wanted to share. It allows me to view my cards every day. In this digital age, there are great sites like collectorfocus.com to be able to bring your collection with you on your phone or computer. What I did is a little more interactive. I made powerpoint slides. That way you can move the cards around, make them different sizes, group them in different ways. It is almost like flipping through them when you run through your slides. It is a lot of fun to come up with new combinations.

Here are a few examples of slides that I have made. Anyone else use powerpoint or something similar? I look at them every time my computer is open (which is most of the day!). Some I added stats / teams / ect. It is a work in progress which is the most fun part of it.

That's Great, Aaron!

I may ask you for directions later on - I'd like to be able to see my collection and not have to uncover and open up my hidden safes every time.

VERY COOL!

ya...those are super cool! i get more enjoyment looking at scans of my cards than the actual cards themselves...they're bigger and more detailed!

Very cool! Just got done creating my site on collector focus but thinking about attempting something similar like yours. Looks great

Man, you sure do have some crappy cards. ;)

Great idea to use powerpoint like that and the presentations look great!

Whoa. Such a great idea. I use PPT for everything; not sure how this didn't cross my mind. Just made my afternoon conference call more compelling. Nice cards, Aaron, and great idea.

Haha. Awesome. I might have helped in decreasing productivity for some people!!

This is the kind of virtual collection I could see spending real money on.

Great idea Aaron! I just might find myself "tinkering" ;) with my cards.

Great collection BTW!

Well done Sam. Very inspirational!

I just joined Flickr when Google shut down Picassa, much to my chagrin. I have been very happy with it so far. I am most pleased with my ability to surf my collection from anywhere on my iPad or iPhone, as I demonstrate in this short video:

Really great idea. I know what I am doing tonight.

vintagebaseballcardguy 09-07-2016 06:17 PM

Aaron, thanks for a useful thread. When I get some time, I might give this a try, too.

Same here.

I have been playing/toying around with Flickr and Leon's free pic/album upload and so far I am pretty happy with everything but I do like what, Aaron has done as well.

Agreed. And a project like this would be something I could do that would allow me to get my cards out and handle them for a while. Such a project might also distract me from continuing to spend myself into oblivion. [emoji3]

Ok, help. When using Collectorfocus.com, is it possible to give each category a different background? For instance I have a category for '53 Topps, '65 Topps, etc. Can I just have one background for all of the categories, or can I have a different background for each category?

Very cool.

For the last 10 ish years I have had my own website. It costs around 13 bucks a month but I wouldn't change it. I have past and current collections and a few items for sale.....I can always see most of my collection anytime...

Leon, me too!
I have a gallery section on my website that anyone can see cards that aren't for sale or others that have sold.
I look at it frequently

I had messed around in PPT a bit, creating a slide for early 'Jordan' ballplayers and creating a 'card' of my Grandfather, Hoyt Webster, who was a boxer. I don't think there is any relation to Tim or AO (Dutch), but Baxter (Buck) is from the same area as much of my family - just have not made a connection yet.

Awesome. Nice layout. Also, that E90-1 Jordan is beautiful. I have never seen that card before.

So I was messing around and came up with this cool effect for pictures that looks like you can stack the cards. Allows me to fit more on the slide. Just thought I would share. If anyone else made any cool powerpoints of their collections please share.

Leon, may I ask how to do this? I have zero knowledge of this right now, would love to have a website with my collection on it. Thanks.

I was really grateful to stumble upon this post and like someone else said, I can't believe I didn't think of doing this before as someone who has worked pretty extensively in PowerPoint.

I scanned in my T205, T206, and partial T207 sets and put this together recently. Here are a few examples of slides from my document. These are a little lacking in creativity and with more time, I want to be able to do something a little nicer. But for now, each slide has a photo of a particular player highlighted in the adjacent cards and that was one very cool aspect for me - digging up photos online of these guys. Some were just great - for example, the photo of Lajoie, which looks like it was used for his T206 bat card.

I still have work to do to get this to where I want it, but I'm very thankful for the OP for the idea. I have the entire PDF at work and even on my phone, and it helps break up slow days. I still have to scan in all of other T and E cards, but this was a great way to start.

Awesome pages and great cards! Love seeing stuff presented in this way.

Those are fantastic and give me a few ideas. I really like the solid border below your johnson and cobb pages. Can't wait to see what else you come up with!

I think if anyone is selling anything on the bst pages they should make a nice presentation. Maybe more like a page from an auction catalogue. Wonder if it would help with sale!
