Gary Sanchez
thoughts on a guy with 9 2B / 11 HR / 21 RBI in 25 games???
yes, he's got 21 K too, but... DS |
All I can think is it's too bad for Kevin Maas that Steiner wasn't around in the 1990's.

I don't think the Kevin Maas comparisons are all that fair. Sanchez is a force behind the plate as well. He's thrown out 42 percent of all runners.
|
If he just turns into Jorge Posada with a better arm from behind the plate, I'll be ecstatic.
Obviously the run he's on now is not close to sustainable and his minor league stats don't exactly project him into I-Rod or even Buster Posey territory...but a level just below that is not out of the question. Sanchez is the real deal for the most part. Aaron Judge is the guy I worry about as a Yankee fan. I can only hope he ends up being more Jay Buhner and less Kevin Maas then he appears to be. |
It's been an unbelievably historic start for sure.

No offense but I think you're projecting because he's a Yankee. He's off to a good start and it has people talking. Anyone is going to talk about a guy hitting 11 homers in 20 games.
|
Yeah, that's exactly what I said. Take away the homers and nobody knows who he is. That's one facet of the game, let's give the kid a few months to see how it works out.

Sanchez
while I'm certainly not the "all-powerful OZ", it seems since my OP I've jinxed the poor guy...dude has kinda sucked offensively ever since then...
:p DS |

Still throwing guys out though.

I never get excited about rookie hot starts.
Once there is enough film the pitchers adjust and the hits go down. You can watch the same thing in every sport, be it hitters, quarterbacks or goalies. What makes the great ones is the ability to adjust to others adjusting to you. |
sucker born everyday

Some are comparing him to Kevin Maas. Right now, though, he's ridiculous.
|
Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't recall Kevin Maas bringing the Yankees back from irrelevance to knocking on the door of a playoff berth. I don't see any similarities between them to be honest.
|
He's doing just fine guys. No, he's not the second coming of Johnny Bench, but if he just settles into a Jorge Posada type hitter and continues his strong defense, he will get a very big contract in 4 years or so if he doesn't get seriously hurt.

I have great respect for JB, but shouldn't any discussion of a great defensive catcher who could also hit include I-Rod? How quickly we forget how much his arm could change ballgames. |
Pudge has been under a steroid cloud for a while though. Will be interesting to see how voters treat him.

I also mentioned him earlier in the thread. Yes, any other era would be an easy 1st ballot HOF'er just for his defense. I don't anticipate Sanchez to be anywhere in the realm of I-Rod or Bench, but there's no real shame in that............I guess unless you're buying rookie cards by the boatload right now. |
