The second pic is our last 2 shelter dogs. We had them for close to 13 years each and I still miss them to this day. They where about 11 or 12 in that picture. Bernie the St Bernard was about 8 months when we adopted him. When I walked by his kennel he stood up on the gate and put his head on my shoulder. After that I had to take him home. After having Bernie for a couple months my Wife said he needed a friend. We went back to the shelter and while there Samson the Rottweiler was brought in because the owner was moving. We took him home.:) |
This is Luigi. Also a rescue, originally a Puerto Rican street dog. He still has a lot of street dog in him.

Nearly blind, nearly deaf and occasionally incontinent. Photo right after she was groomed. An hour later she looks like a drunk on a 10 day bender. But my girls love her................. http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...ictureid=21069 |

Our brood as of a few minutes ago. The 2 inside dogs are kind of freaked out because there are approximately 7 guys on our roof with nail guns putting a new roof on. Many dogs don't do too well in that environment. The outside 3 could care less about them except the male, Linus, barks at them for a while to start things off in the morning. It's his job I guess...(btw, all 3 outside dogs are together in a fairly large area that will be larger soon. They aren't separated. )

Murph (9 year old Wheaten) and I love to play toy toss with his stuffed dog. When I was traveling for a few days, and my wife was busy with the kids, she said Murph ended up following her around with his dog, looking for someone to play with him. She snapped this pic and sent to me, with Murph looking pathetic and wanting her to play, since I wasn't there. Love this guy!
Murph also has been known to join us in dressing up for an ugly Christmas sweater party.... |
Here's my dog Jack perusing my book when it came out last year

This is Maxx. One of our six dogs. We had a Smooth Fox Terrier, a Wheaten Terrier, a Chiuahua, and Maxx, a Jack Russell/Border Collie mix before we added my mother in laws 2 Schnauzers when she passed away on April 1 2016. Luckily, they do get along. Will have to post pics of other dogs when I get some.

Here's my dog Pete doing his two favorite things :D |
Just dogs? Here's my rescued cat, Sylvester, who looks upon everything with great suspicion. Comes when he's called, chews on baseball cards like catnip, and loves unconditionally. There's room in your hearts for those with nine lives too.... :)

"rescued" an unwanted dog from the 'gonna put him down if I can't find a good home' needle back in the early/mid 1980's as somebody (ex-girlfriend's mom's friend) just didn't want it anymore...awesome f**king dog! - one of my better decisions then AND now.
dogs are in so many ways better than people - they may occasionally sh!t on the floor, but they'll never (intentionally) sh!t on you or me. great thread! - loving the pictures/stories. DS |

http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...e/IMG_0041.JPG http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit.../websize/G.JPG When agitated she turns into this: http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...Chucky%201.jpg This is the cat, Hai Mao (Chinese for black cat; my daughter named him). He is a far more interesting person. I call him The Black Death as he slaughters all manner of creatures in our yard, without discriminating. I've seen him catch, kill and eat an entire rat, tail included. Some days I find bits and pieces of multiple varmints strewn across the lawn. I know if he was 100# heavier he'd kill us all in our sleep and eat our livers with fava beans and a fine chianti. I can respect that... http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...ize/image.jpeg |
Just acquired a PSA poor to fair 1917 Boston Store Sam Crawford, with wear, creasing and staining--does that qualify? On a more serious note, we had a wonderful American Staffordshire Terrier, Coffee, which we had to put to sleep six years ago, just a couple months shy of her 15th birthday (not bad longevity for an eighty pound dog!). She was the most wonderful dog--when my wife was working late night after night just after she had ascended to the presidency/CEO-ship of her company, Coffee would hear her car arrive and park in the driveway, and immediately erupt into sheer joy--"Mom's home;" Mom's home!" She had a propensity for getting into the garbage even thought she knew that was a no-no, and we used to punish her by putting her into the big doggy cage in the basement for an hour. After awhile, she would get into the garbage anyway when we were away, and as soon as we came home, she would sheepishly go downstairs on her own and put herself into the cage! What a conscience! Truly a riot!
The day she died was my 40th high school reunion, and although I had tickets, I just could not go--would have broken down into tears at any moment. Just sat on the porch sipping a black russian. They are truly family--thanks to all that have shared photos! We now have 4 rescue cats (cats are easier) varying in age from 2 to 9, which we love dearly and they offer the same love and affection in return. One feral cat I brought home just over two years ago when he was only about 8 weeks old will go down into the family room while I am watching baseball on the big, high def screen and crawl up onto my chest or stomach, put his paws up on my upper chest in a pumping motion of affection, and lick my neck and chin. He is my baseball buddy, my little boy, but the others are similarly affectionate, giving back love for love received. The wife is prone to saying, "We have too many cats," to which I will reply, "Yes, dear, we are truly blessed with cats." They ARE truly family! Best to all the animal lovers out there--you are truly the best of people, Larry |

After a lifetime of rescue dogs last year I purchased my first purebred. This is Pacheco he is a one year old bull terrier. I felt guilty after purchasing him for about 5 minutes. For the price of a PSA 6 Koufax I purchased a best friend. He keeps me laughing as he is deliciously bad. He has a taste for expensive shoes and is a big time bra killer. I live with three women so he has a target rich environment. I have a very stressful job and I live vicariously through his I don’t give a sh!t attitude. My wife wants me to get him trained but why would I train all the fun out of him?

Well, he's technically not mine, but I do an awful lot of dog sitting! :D
Kricket is a rescue (we think he's an 11-year-old Rat Terrier) that my daughter got when one of the surgeons at her place of work (Oradell NJ Animal Hospital) did some free heart surgery on him at the request of the North Shore Animal League. He is a great dog (though he still has health issues) and he used to be a great drinking companion! ;) |
My dog, Bentley, who just had his first birthday.

I love all animals and have owned a few dogs as well growing up, but due to circumstances, (we both work and feel it is unfair to a dog) we have a cat. This neglected guy showed up a few days after we put our beloved "Norton" down, He just hung around, followed me to school when I went to pick up my son, became close, even with a wild side as he was an outdoor cat. After a couple months, a lady, who seen him following us home from school, called his name. Long story short, he belonged to her neighbor, and after conversing with them, they gave him up. He was neglected, left outdoors for weeks, left out in the cold/rain, etc. (Found out from her and others) Trip to vet to get all shots done, check up and has been nothing but a great, appreciative cat ever since. :) These same people, for whatever reason, purchased another cat last year, which we seen, out in the rain, the cold, snow etc, and it has disappeared already! |
I don't have accessible photos of the 2 here now
