Topps 1974 Deckle
I have always liked this set, but did go a little overboard in collecting it. When I first finished the 72 card set it annoyed me that some backs ( 2/3) were gray and some white. So I decided to finish it out in both gray and white back. This took some time as the whites are harder to find than the grays, and some whites seemed harder than others...even though the set was produced on two 36 card sheets
While looking for white backs I also finished the set in "proof" form (undeckled cards cut from sheets). Unfortunately my proof set has both white and gray backs ( sigh...a problem for a future day) I also picked up a full set on uncut sheets The set may not be that popular with collectors because it is B&W and oversized, but I have always admired it http://i1267.photobucket.com/albums/...psc90a34f7.jpg http://i1267.photobucket.com/albums/...psizo8m8tn.jpg http://i1267.photobucket.com/albums/...psfbticbwn.jpg http://i1267.photobucket.com/albums/...psb88a5067.jpg http://i1267.photobucket.com/albums/...pscd2lyhvo.jpg http://i1267.photobucket.com/albums/...psvgrjvg34.jpg |
You finally found the white back Fisk?

Fisk
Yes, from a dealer at the National via email

Very cool Al...I remember seeing some of these when I was a kid.
Is that a graded card in your collection? :p |

Personally really like the '74 Deckle, but as a single player collector I only collect one player. I am still missing the '74 Deckle white back finished card so the search is still on for me. Also, "LOVE" the sheet with Brooks pictured. I don't think it's a problem that there is a proof in both white and gray, it's that you need to find the proofs with both backs to finish up your "set". Keep up the good work on a great set. |
74 Deckles
I have the Hebner in regular and proof form. Still want Sanguillen and Stargell.

Great cards and a great accomplishment, Al! I only have the Nolan Ryan and Carlton Fisk, but love them both.
Best wishes, Larry |
Al - This is a stellar set and an amazing accomplishment. They are flat out tough to find, especially working the two backs the way you are.
Be well, RayB |
Al, is that a PSA graded card(s) in your collection? Surely acquired by mistake! Or at least begrudgingly?
