1968 Topps yellow team letters question- win the card
 

Did the Coxs and Brinkman with yellow letters all come from "win the card" game ?

I am under the impression that both white and yellow could have come from individual 68 packs

Some dealer at the National told me that all the yellow versions originated from "win the card"

My neighbor who is in his 60 s showed me his cards and sure enough he had a yellow team Brinkman. The back looked more orange yellow than Milton Bradley yellow... none of his other 68 had bright yellow backs.

So are there 3 versions-
white team with regular orange /yellow back
yellow team with regular orange/yellow back
Yellow team with bright yellow back (win the card)

All 1968 Ed Brinkman and Casey Cox yellow team cards are either Milton Bradley or Topps Venezuelan.

Why on eBay are the psa slabbed cards listed as Topps...not Milton Bradley or Topps Venz.?

Agree with Cliff. We have an MB master collector on the board., goheels. He has several complete games and several set. He has even done a sheet layout. There is a thread in here with all of that. I will try to find it.

PSA has always had a hard time recognizing true MBs. The back differences are noticeable in the MB and regular counterparts, but later series cards in the regular set have the same color backs as the MBs and many dealers mistakenly or fraudulently offer them as MBs. The Mantle has been offered as an MB by some.

Unless you have both versions in hand together, I think a grader not familiar with the MB and regular Topps differences would have a hard time distinguishing the two, just like they have had trouble with the 1962 non pose green tint differences

I keep one of the Cox and Brinkman cards with my MB set and one with my regular set since they are listed as a variation by most guides and PSA. But they always have MB backs.

I think PSA started listing them as variations before anyone realized the MB connection. They are now part of hobby lore.

They have even mislabeled the Ryan on one occasion ;-)

Not all of the 1968 Milton Bradley backs are a brilliant bright yellow, some were printed in a more drab yellow, but they are still distinguishable from first and second series 1968 Topps backs.

Are you specifically referring to the yellow crop line at the bottom? If so, doesn't that appear on a good percentage of the regular Topps (and OPC) Flood cards? Or does the thickness of the yellow line separate the MB from its counterparts?
