Ripken ball - Crazy bad forgery?
Did Ripken's autograph change that much over time, or is this the worst forgery ever? If the guy's story is true and he thinks it's real, I hardly have the heart to tell him (assuming I'm not naive and this is somehow legit).

That's not signed by Cal Ripken, Jr. the baseball HOF'er
|
I do not know if it is authentic, but the signature style is Cal Ripken, Sr., not junior.

Interesting point, I hadn't even thought to check the two. Ripken Jr. isn't even a $175 auto unless it's got multiple rare inscriptions on it, so his dad sure won't be. I sure hope that silent auction was for charity... |
It is in my opinion Cal Sr.
|
It's definitely Cal Sr.

Silent auctions are usually at least partially fundraisers, so people will tend to pay more than the open market value for an item. But that also sort of reinforces that it would not be worth anywhere near the $175 originally paid.
