Anyone else have some funky cuts on these seldom seen cards? This one could be trimmed but the cut is so off anyway, I am not sure it matters!!

These cards were printed on thin paper stock so they're somewhat fragile and likely haven't had as many examples survive over the years as other sets from the early 20s. As a result, they're pretty hard to come by and next to impossible to find in mid to high grade.

Miscuts, diamond cuts, oversized borders and those sort of things are very common with this issue as well. Apparently a large number of these were cut up manually. It's almost easier to find miscut cards than cards that are well-centered!

Here's a couple of mine. I think that the Barber might have been on the top row and when the cards were handcut off the sheet, they might just not have trimmed that top edge. I'm not quite sure how to explain the Ring though...

Here's my two. Both have diamond cuts and somewhat oversized borders I think. The Grimm is SGC 20 and the Wilson is SGC 30:

Definitely harder to find a well centered e220 then a radically miss cut one.

E220 cards are a great set to collect for the budget conscious, as they feature great photos, some not seen in other sets, but are also usually found horribly miscut, which helps keep their cost down as they would not appeal to the 'centered' crowd. About the only other vintage issue that I think has as many cutting issues is the 1941 Goudey set. I have a theory that maybe E220's were issued in strip form, or perhaps a boatload of sheets were cut down by the scissorly challenged...how else could there be so many chiropractic calamities?

Here are a few fun misfitcuts. The Groh is a great card in my eye, as it has portions of three cards evident, but also because of the great pose that showcases Heinie's bottle bat. I have several cards that are just as funhouse fun, but you out there with an eye for the misaligned and deranged will just have to settle for these at the time being.

Worst quality control of all time. Finding a correctly cut and centered card in this set is the equivalent of finding a wild miscut in any other.

Here's mine, which I've had for over 20 years. Pretty well cut and centered -- I didn't realize they were usually miscut.

Now you know it must be a fake...just kidding! You have the exception that proves the rule.

I mean SGC is just cruel to give the Pennock that grade with this issue...

Here's mine. Got it raw from Dean's Cards for a hundred bucks.

Nice card Tom. The E220 Hooper is another favorite of mine...check out all the background baseball action.

E220's are awesome, centering be damned. Missed out on the Hooper via snipe the other night, but landed this Frisch. Others picked up over the past several years. Would love a Ruth some day.
