1952 Topps Mantle taking offers.

Make offer.....Certified check or MO only. Thanks Cross-posted. 50/50 perfect centering with no creases and clean back. Issue is was painted with pastel on front probably in 1950s art class and a failed attempt of removal resulting in surface wear. Great clean image of Mantle and not other alterations. A great card for an affordable price.

you said its an affordable price....whats the price?

The card looks kind of 3D---is the scan true to what the card really looks like?--Nice centering which is always tough to find

Don

Yes it looks as in the scan. Better in person. I am taking offers. I dont care if it sells or not, but would take the right offer.

Huh?

I think what Jake was getting at is you clearly say:

"A great card for an affordable price."

but then you fail to list that exact "affordable price"!?!?!?!?

It does not make sense. To me, an affordable price is maybe $100, to others maybe an affordable price is $223, to the guy in Toledo.....ok ok...I think I've made my point.

I'd say delete that line and you have yourself a day and a pretty cool card to boot and trust me, I know what this card is worth.

Leave that perplexing line and you will be answering folks like me as to what that really means! :)

Peace, Mike

I've always thought that card had cool character ever since I saw it 8 years ago. Here's the thread from back in the day if anyone is interested.

Very neat card IMHO regardless of the painting. Still wonder if something could be done with the paint. Would love to see it tried but not enough to buy it and try it myself. Would be fun to see someone that money wasn't an object try to fix it.

Mr. Navarro,

Thanks for the kind words....... and for Mike above him, I posted asking for offers clearly. Affordable nowadays for any 1952 Mantle we can assume is $10K or less. The card is clearly a nice option at an affordable price to the buyer. Affordable can mean $6K,7K or even $10K depending how bad you need or want it. I am looking for OFFERS at this time. Anything north of $7K will be highly considered. This card could have been bought for $3k raw a few years ago, but as we all know Mantles have almost tripled. You should either message me an offer or just enjoy the show, but let's not try to muddy the listing please. Have a nice day.

Mike N.,

When SHane possessed it 8 years ago, he had actually talked to a restoration co. out of Chicago who actually thought they could restore it to gem quality. The cost was north of $5K and they needed a donor card of same colors as well as it could have been highly risky. This would be the one to try considering it is 50/50 dead centered with a clean back. They explained the process to Shane but he returned it due to the cost and risk.

Jason,

I don't remember it costing $5K. I've slept a little since then, but I was thinking $1K to $2K. Anyway, glad you got it slabbed.

ruth-gehrig 06-10-2016 06:46 PM

In your previous discussion here https://forums.collectors.com/messag...hreadid=657381 you originally had intentions of getting it slabbed by PSA. Why is it now in a BVG slab??

JasonD08 06-10-2016 08:39 PM

PSA said they would slab it when I emailed scans, but when I sent it, they said too much alterations to slab. Perhaps I did not send enough cabbage. Anyway I like how it looks in the current holder.
