My First Boxing Cards!

6 Attachment(s)
Yesterday I stopped at an old card/coin shop that I hadn't been in for nearly 23 years. The owner had pretty much completely gotten out of selling cards nearly 10 years ago, but he thought he might have a small box with some in yet, he dug around in the back for about 10 minutes and finally came out with a dusty box of cards. There were none of the baseball cards that I am currently collecting, but there was this near set of Series 1 - 1951 Topps Ringside cards. I asked him what he needed for them, was hoping not much as they were not in the best of condition - few cards with light paper loss on backs, but they do present well. He gave me a price and I bought them!
Until yesterday the only boxing card that I owned was an Exhibit card of Henry Armstong. I have not decided if I really want to keep these and try to finish off the set, a little research has told me the second series could get a little pricey to try to complete. Still short three cards from the 1st series # 25,37 & 42.
My wife is voting get rid of them, the last thing I need to do is start collecting another sport! I think the cards are beautiful for 1951 and wonder why Topps couldn't make a baseball card that looked this good until much later!

My daughter has decided that she would like to have this Series 1 set of 1951 Topps Ringside cards, so to help her out I want to fill in the 1 missing card:

#25 Bob Baker
#37 Eugene Hairston
#42 Tiger Flowers

Series one Subset has been completed! Thank you!

I know when I was 11 years old I would have loved to get a set of cards like this for my birthday, I'm just glad one of my kids are finally showing some interest in the hobby!

Thanks,
Steve

You have the most expensive card there, the Marciano RC. It looks pretty nice. May be worth a trip to PSA?

There are so many cards that are offered every week on eBay your best bet is to set a budget for each common and just plug away with bids. Odds are you will be able to pick up most of the set for a very reasonable price.

And you have to buy a salesman sample too!
