Coincidence? Not sure .....
Not sure how what to make of this, but a card I have wanted for years with a grade and a price I could afford came up yesterday morning. I had some dialogue with the seller, and I purchased the card on eBay. His asking price. I was ecstatic!
The price was $2499, which was a good price for both. The card was a PSA 4.5, and a PSA 5 sold for $3200 last week. Today, he cancelled the order. Refunded the money, and sent me an eBay message that the card was stolen last night. Said he filed a police report and not to leave negative feedback. Pretty ticked off/disappointed right now and just wanted to vent .... |
Yeah I guess it could be possible. But on the surface, something smells. I would be tempted to neg him but maybe it's not worth it in the end. Sorry to hear this happens.
|
Yeah... that stinks. What are the chances...
|
My presumption would be that his story is BS but I guess anything is possible.

FWIW, I cancelled ONE sale before. I was honest and up front with the buyer - I simply could not package the card up and ship it. I had big time sellers remorse. I expected a harsh reply (deserving) but he understood. I would have understood if he said the same, and possibly if some overpriced "seller" from collectors focus emailed him and said I'll pay more. |
Sucks big time. Highly suspicious but I'd move on. I wouldn't ding him unless he had a number of other fishy/similar comments.

Re: Coincidence? Not sure .....
Tell him you'll refrain from leaving a negative if he sends you a copy of the police report.

Technically it was your card that was stolen so maybe you should file a report.
|
Anyone can get a police report that says anything they want. Yes, would hold his feet to the fire but not much.
|
Neg him. If he asks, tell him someone hacked your eBay account and left him negative feedback. After all, anything is possible, right? :D

I am going to choose to believe him. Will be better off in the long run .... bottom line is that I now have to wait for another 38 Goudey DiMaggio that I like. No biggie, just wanted to vent and appreciate the posts and advice |
Very odd as it appears that same card sold for $3,050 just two months ago.

I am in the market for a 1938 Goudey DiMaggio in the 2-4 range, should anyone have one! |
Well, that stinks!
But now you can buy an Aaron RC!

I agree this is most likely BS. If he claims to have already filed a police report ask to see it and the date it was filed. I dobut a seller who canceled a sale because he changed his mind or received a better offer would take the time to actually file a false police report. If he refuses I would post his ebay ID here and leave the negative.

I am sorry that there are sellers like that individual. I must say the replies are very entertaining guys
ps i like the cartons :D |

He was also the ebay buyer with a feedback of (76) when it sold in March for 3K .... |
The plot thickens.

Interesting!

Wow! With that price I should think about selling my Psa 5! Does he get those prices or is it just a museum? |
I'm pretty sure it's a museum.

Ebay one appears to have a wavier flip. Odd that.

Hi everyone,
This is my first reply here and I hope that for you guys that know me will support me here. Every card I purchase regardless of value I have reholdered and I do indeed own this card. Unfortunately there are individuals out there that make bad decisions and we should not glamorize them for their poor decision making. As far as the museum comments, think what you would like. I buy high grade cards and the market usually catches up to them. Hopefully the guys I've dealt with on this board feel like I'm fair and reasonable because I really try to be. To me, my mid grade stuff is all about the friends I make and this is my greatest enjoyment in the hobby. If you want to party on high grade stuff, I'm always game too! Thanks for the texts letting me know about this thread for my buddies out there! Enjoy your night, Brady |
Have bought a few cards from Brady and the transactions went smoothly and the cards were amazing. He ships fedex overnight and sometimes a book comes along with your card.
I know for a fact that he is a good guy and he loves cards that are centered and will pay a premium. Hope this clears up a few concerns you guys may have. Enjoy our crazy hobby that's getting wilder by each auction. |
I bought a few cards from Brady as well, including my 39 Williams that I love. I found him very reasonable to deal with, and his cards were basically all dead centered with nice eye appeal. I received my cards a day or two after I bought them as well.

Thanks for the reply, Brady.
I have looked at your collection many times - great stuff! |
I, too, have dealt with Brady and consider him a friend and even a mentor in the hobby as he has been a sounding board on major purchase decisions. He has an incredible collection and has been very reasonable in parting with a few pieces that have since become the best items in my collection. While the prices listed may seem strong, the quality of cards is incredibly high (try to find an uncentered card on his site), and, as we've discussed about others, he's free to set prices as he see fits. He's not a dealer, per se, as this is very much a hobby, so I'm not sure he's really trying to sell, but I do know he loves the interactions with with fellow hobbyists and enjoys striking a deal where it makes sense.
To the OP, you should neg the hell out of your eBay seeker. Clearly a fraudulent sale as it's clear that card was in someone else's possession. |
Have always loved this one since first time I heard it:
Today's cards. Tomorrow's prices. |
