1969 Milton Bradley set
1 Attachment(s)
How do you tell if your Milton Bradley is from 1969 or 1972? Hopefully the following well help clarify some of this, if this hasn't already been done (or if anyone actually cares). I would like a definitive list so please help fill in the gaps or correct me if I'm wrong.
I picked up an opened game about a year ago for a steal. It contained every card except for Tony Taylor. The general rule of thumb for the 1969 version is that if the card contains a red 1, and the red 1 does NOT have a base, it is from the 1969 set. However, in going through the cards, I found that the following cards did NOT contain any red 1s at all:
Lastly... I am praying that there aren't variations within each year. |

Here is the back of the Taylor card from my 1969 MB set....I had 3 others from the group you pictured and they all matched.

I have a complete set of 1972 Milton Bradley, here are the back scans of the cards in question, minus the Pepitone. If I remember correctly, the only cards in the set that do not have red one's with a base are the Brewers header card and the Giants header card.

Here are all the Lou Brock's. Most likely the 72 is not a proof, but I don't know

Brock
Lou hardly aged at all during those years

What year is the Royals card? It has red 1s both with & without the base.
That is, for the 2 roll (Groundout) and the 5 roll (Bunt single), the 1 has no base, but the 3 roll (bunt out) and the 9 roll (single), the 1 has a base. |

Here is a scan of the two versions I have of the Milton Bradley Royals card.
As can be seen, the right side has the right text (RA1) for both the 3 roll and the 6 roll in both black and red, so the red number has the base for those. The right text for the 2 roll and 9 roll are in red for both these variations, so the 1 does not have a base. Which card is from which year? Attachment 649828 |
The one on the left is a 1969 and the one on the right is a 1972. There are two red based 1’s on the card on the right which makes it a 1972. Some 1972’s will have both red based 1’s and red 1’s without the base on the same card. The only 1972 Milton Bradley cards to not have at least one red based 1 are the Milwaukee Brewers header card and the San Francisco Giants header card.
