52 Topps complete set sold.
Surprised this set didn't sell for more considering the PSA 5 Mantle in it?

Do you think seller would have received more had the set been broken down and sold card by card ?

Or perhaps take the Mick out from the set.
That PSA 5 mick, like it says was centered nice. http://catalog.scpauctions.com/ItemI...0319A_med.jpeg I think it did pretty darn good as a group. Consider this card sold on the 60k-70k range, thus puts the other cards value 55k-65k. Break them down and figure it?? Keep in mind Hunts just sold their SGC 60/5 centered Mick for 62,225.00 http://huntauctions.com/phone/imagev...0&lot_num=1384 while it was competing against a rival sgc 55.4.5 that was o/c selling for 16,122.0 other '5' sales: Heritage 11/5/2015 centered 57,360.00 http://dyn1.heritagestatic.com/lf?se...oduct.chain%5D |

I could be out in left field with my thinking as I am still learning as I go here, but my initial reaction was this set sold cheap considering the Mantle in it and the popularity that card has. Quote:

The sky is falling!!

Irv, my understanding is that complete sets generally sell for less than the cost of the individual cards. There are fewer buyers that want a complete set and can afford to pay the $125k for it than there are buyers willing to buy one or two cards here or there over the years.

I was also thinking after, because this set isn't in the PSA 7 and up grading, that is also likely why it didn't sell for more? Originally, it just seemed cheap to me considering the price of the cards within, especially the Mantle. |
I agree with you, but if it were a deal somebody would have bought it to break it up and flip it. Didn't I see a 52 set break somewhere in the past 6 months or so?

Now, considering it states that, which the buyer most likely would have known, I am surprised it fetched what it did? I assume, if it was stated, that PSA would have also known that? This surprises me that the cards were graded as high as they were. Like in another thread, a card with very small staple holes was graded a 1, (rightfully so imo) so I can't understand why these cards would be graded as high as they were if they had painted corners? Is this, or was it an excepted practice? Totally surprised here:confused: |
i pretty sure this exact set sold a year ago as well...but i could be wrong
