Why are Hal Chase and Pepper Martin in the HOF?

Because card dealers continue to believe they were inducted.

Name some other all-time Non-HOF Hall of Famers!

There was a Robinson kid, I think

It wasn't Brooks,

It wasn't Frank

And no it wasn't Jackie.;)

Damn I can't remember.

Why isn't George Mullin in the hall? He has very comparable numbers with Marquard or Chesbro. (For the record I don't think any of the 3 deserve it)

They missed on Minnie Minoso. He would have had a lot of fun in the running 80's, just born at the wrong time.

.....and a whole bunch of Negro leaguers!

Bruinsfan94 04-16-2016 09:59 AM

I honestly thought Martin and Marty Marion were in the Hall of Fame.

For those of you who missed the Jackie post . . . here we go again. :D

I always think that Johnny Kling is in the Hall.

CMIZ5290 04-16-2016 03:39 PM

Bill Dahlen, Larry Doyle, and Ed Reulbach....

19th Century:
Tony Mullane
Ned Williamson
Al Reach (I think he should be in there as a Pioneer and pre-Professional player... we can kick out Bulkeley and just let Reach take his place) :)

I have to disagree with you big time on Chesbro. Anyone that wins 41 games in a season should probably get in on that alone. But he also had a solid record, 198-129 I believe or something close to that.

Maybe Chesbro is hall worthy. But in that case I would argue Mullin was aswell with a high of 29 wins in 1909, 228-196 career, 2.82 era with 353 of his 428 starts complete games. 6 world series complete games with 1.82 era. I can certainly see the argument for both pitchers inclusion. I just feel Mullin gets forgotten so I gave a few comparisons.

I agree with your point pertaining Mullin. While I don't put him at the level of Chesbro, I do think he's Hall worthy....I had no idea that his complete game ratio was that high. That would have to rank with some of the greatest pitchers of all time....

Steve

It's a shame that character doesn't come in to play because Dale Murphy would be a landslide......

Another name of fame

I have seen a good portion of the players mentioned listed as HOF'ers in ebay lots. One that I occasionally see noted as a HOF player is Babe Herman...I think they are confusing him with Billy Herman.

Character actually is one of the conditions that voters are permitted to take into account. It's almost never invoked though. Sometimes voters (at least implicitly) refer to it as an excuse for not voting for accused steroid users, but that's about it.

Chase always gets put into the HOF for some reason, Thurman Munson too. (as well as the others listed)

I bought a Bucky Walters endorsed glove from a dealer once who said that Walters was in the Hall of Fame. When I told him he was not, he said "Well, he's in my Hall of Fame."
