Willie Mays auto - need help
 

I picked up this awesome card from the last Card Show I attended... I didn't know anything about the set, but the dealer (a good guy that I trust) told me it was from a set that featured randomly inserted Willie Mays autos on the back of some of the cards. The back of cards 46-90 make a puzzle if you can collect all of them. I've tried to search for this card (or another similar one) line that has an auto on the back, but haven't had any luck. Is anyone familiar with this set?

From what I have been able to glean, it's from the 1984 ASA Willie Mays set, ordered exclusively through Renata Galasso's Hobby mail order operation. I found other cards from this set online, but nothing like the auto I found.

Thanks - that's pretty similar to what I was able to find. The only card that seems to come with the possibility of an auto is card #1, and the auto is on the front. So that makes me wonder about the auto on my card... is it just so obscure that info is not readily available? Or was it a hand-signed auto that someone got when they met Willie Mays somewhere? Or is it not a real auto? Based on the scans I've seen of his auto, it looks legit to me. I wonder if I should get it authenticated?

I believe part of the Renata galas so set made up a puzzle that featured a display of Mays cards. I also want to say that ALL of the Mays cards featured in the display on the puzzle were signed, so I believe your card is simply picturing a signed card that was photographed.

I tried finding a photo of the full back image a while back, but gave up.
