Mission Creep

How do you keep from mission creep in collecting?

You can't

You can't avoid it. I try to limit my collection to cards that were manufactured in New Orleans, but I have a real difficult time passing up Goudeys, Diamond Stars, Leaf, etc so I usually end up buying them when I see them. I can't really call it mission creep, it is more like my mission totally exploded.

Any time I think about straying from my project, my bank account intervenes and prevents it  .

Tough!

I have had mission creep almost monthly. It's what I deserve from cruising around this board so much. Started with national chicle football, then 33 Goudey, then T205, now some T206 and trying to finish up my E98 set and all along I get distracted by the big names. I am a certified mission creeper. Or addict, but mission creeper sounds better when explaining to others

Great Phrase - Great Thread

Finally I have a great phrase to use to describe my entire collecting life!

But, some of my favorite cards were a result of significant mission creep. I say don't avoid it and enjoy the unpredictable ride. It's how I went from being exclusively a T206 collector to having this wonderful card:

I avoid this by being missionless. Well, I have one mission: buy cards I think are cool.

Me!!!!

My problem exactly.
If there weren't so many cool cards, I wouldn't have a problem!!!!!

It that is what happens when you creep, then Creep away sir
Great card!

Mission explosion. I like that. Started with a Jackie Robinson focus. Then 1947 Dodgers. Then Dodgers. Then baseball. Then...ugh. Mission creep. But the ride is fun. I'm on the memorabilia side of things. Never done cards except as a young pup. But they are dang cool. This forum has opened a whole new world.

Seems like every week I say (a) "that should do it for now, can't see anything else I'm interested in" closely followed by (b) "wow's that's cool. Better grab that now."

This week it's the Propagandas cards from Cuba. Next week/month who knows. . . . . .

Seems like there is always something cool lurking behind the next turn.

I love that moment when I first realize I've officially "mission crept." I'll get a new card, sit down to log it into my records, and realize, "oh sh*t, I think I'm building a Delong set now."

Dewey 04-02-2016 11:55 AM

Ooooh. I'd love to see an example.

Cool. I'm such a card noob. I thought it would have a pic of Fidel or Che and say "Communisimo is fabuloso" or something. :D

Still love and collect T205s. Why did I buy these?
