Jerry, This was So Interesting ta me, Honestly! I'm not really a 19th Century Card kinda of guy. However, Articles such as this one, the one that You wrote, brings me Closer ta becoming one. There are very few 19th century card issues that I am even remotely interested in. This was an Excellent history read and I'm sure I will reference and Re~Read many times!

By Chance, Do You have a Picture or Possibly a Scan of Your "Butterfly Lady"!?

The one You mention here in Your Article:

"At an antique show, I purchased and opened a W.S. Kimball & Co. high grade cigarette pack; the insert card pictured a beautiful woman with butterfly wings. That N183 card was not my hope."

If you look close you will see the women names are (Greek? can anyone id the nationality). So this pack was destine for export.

The High Grade cigarette pack was left complete; it was consigned to a 2012 Bill Goodwin Auction.

As shown in the article - W S Kimball inserted N184 cards (also N183s) in the High Grade packs - the James O'Neil card shown is one the four ball players in this set. The others are: Burch, Darling, and Henderson. A mint card of anyone of these would be gold.

BTW this article was submitted to SCD September, 2014. Tobacco era has low priority with SCD - unlike the old days.
